Huddersfield Town v Nottingham Forest

Venue: The John Smiths Stadium, Huddersfield

Date: 21st August 2012

Kick Off: 19:45

Welcome to the official match thread for the Championship fixture between Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest, brought to you in association with Seabrook Canadian Ham flavour crisps. This thread was produced an an iPhone by a man with fat thumbs so if you feel it is lacking in content or you are generally not impressed, please bear in mind before making any complaint that I really couldn't care less as this is my first attempt at a match preview!

Current form:

Town kick off their 2012/13 home programme against fallen giants Nottingham Forest, looking for both their first point and first goal of a somewhat slow starting season.

Huddersfield come into this game off the back of two defeats, at Preston in the Capital One Cup and at Cardiff in last Friday's televised game. Whilst no goals or points have been registered yet by the Terriers, Fridays performance left the majority of supporters quietly satisfied by the effort and tactics employed in that match.

In comparison, Forest already have three points on the board, courtesy of a solitary Guedioura strike at home to Bristol City on Saturday. This followed on from another 1-0 win at big spending Fleetwood in the cup last Monday.

Information for away supporters:

Forest have received an initial allocation of 2,000 unreserved seat tickets located in the John Smiths Stand behind the goal. The Forest website claims there are still plenty of tickets available for this fixture and fans can also pay on the turnstile on the night. Tickets are priced as follows:

£23 Adult
£13 Students and over 60s
£10 Under 16s
£5 for under 8s (pre purchase necessary)

There are also 8 wheelchair bays available for disabled supporters. Please contact your club for details of coach transport, though your website states this will be £12. I cannot provide any parking information as I don't park anywhere near the ground myself!

If you arrive early and fancy a pre-match drink then the Ropewalk, situated within the Cinema complex at the opposite end of the ground to where you sit will probably be your best option. Usually a very welcoming atmosphere where both home and away supporters mix freely.

Team News:

It goes without saying that we will all be crossing our fingers that star striker Jordan Rhodes is passed fit for Tuesday. However, it has been rumoured that he will be out for a week so a place on the bench might be the very best he and we can hope for. Other than that I wouldn't predict any major changes from Friday and expect Town to field an unchanged side.

Smithies,
Hunt, Dixon, Clarke or Gerrard, Lynch
Scannell, Clayton, Norwood, Southern, Arfield
Novak

I have no idea about Forest as yet though they lined up against Bristol City as follows:

Camp, Moloney, Halford, Collins (c), Harding, Gillett, McGugan, Guedioura, Majewski, Reid, Blackstock.

Subs: Evtimov (GK), Hutchinson, Cox, McGoldrick, Lascelles, Greening, Tudgay.

My predicted score: 1-1

Predicted attendance: 15,500 (ish)

Previous meeting at Huddersfield (Tuesday 2nd October 2007)

Just me and Loui reasonably happy out of all us lot then,, Two games two reasonable performances,, Think some folk are expecting a bit too much from our young side,, Forest have spent a bit, Will be paying big wages to the likes of Reid,,, We tryed to play it about a bit rather than just hoof it, And i do think all our signings are far better footballers than what we had last year.

As for some of the tactical knowledge being spouted about what we should have done ???? Hindsight is a wonderful thing, All a bit after the mayors show me thinks.

Captain Dubstar- I wouldn't discount any goal.

At the same time the answer isn't always to cross the ball into the box, maybe just maybe the player out wide looked up and thought the better option was to go back..retain possesion and try another way. I can't knock a footballer for using the little brains that they have.

Bozza...

Please show me where I said that the answer was always to cross the ball into the box. I can show you where just two days ago on this board, I stated, “I have always said, it’s what gets the job done.”

Your statement, which I repeat... “It's alright saying we should've got crosses in but Town are trying to play a different way to last season. We are trying to retain possesion and probe our way into a goalscoring chance.”... is very much a statement of fact, and as far as I can see, doesn’t allow for exceptions.

The current Premier League champions were drawing 2-2 at home with newly promoted Southampton at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday. They have a team which includes players I am sure you would welcome with open arms, were they to be available for Town. Here is a description from the BBC’s website of their winning goal which they scored some 18 minutes from the end of the game... “Clichy's cross bounced into the path of Nasri, who found the net with a fierce drive from 10 yards out.”

That cross was in fact, headed away poorly by Southampton defender Daniel Fox. Nasty things, crosses... not just for vampires!

Probing might be all right for discovering outer space, but I go along with Bill Shankly, who is reported to have given the following advice to Ian St. John... “If you're not sure what to do with the ball, just pop it in the net and we'll discuss your options afterwards.”

Beware probing. The owner of the goose that laid golden eggs killed it to find out how it worked, didn't learn anything, and then there were no more golden eggs.

EL AURANS..
hindsight?? best read some of my posts that are always on well before the games//
the comments i make on this post stand for the burnley game on saturday..
we dont have enough pace in the side.. we dont have enough players in the opposition half to keep any concerted pressure on them(most of the time)...
I was very pleased with the way we played at cardiff(just dropped too deep for too long right at the death)..
Last night we just couldnt keep up with the pace and movement of forest.. we didnt help ourselves by backing off at times...happy with the last 10 minutes pressure and the penalty.. jack is our 2secret weapon" that isnt secret anymore but as anyone with pace, you know its coming and you can plan for it, but once he goes by you you have 2 choices, let him go or foul him..

Couple of times in the first half where i thought Dixon could have whipped a ball in for Rhodes,

Over run by Forest,
general opinion seems to be we were lucky not to be a few goals behind at half time.
Final score 1-1.
phew ...maybe we were lucky.
2 games in,
played well against Cardiff = Nought.
Over run by Forest = Draw.

Big breaths.
