Recently, I have had a change of heart and the reason is Nadal's absence. I never liked Nadal and I have stated my reasons over and over again.
I did not like Nadal for his disregard for rules and at times the negative tennis he played however there is no doubt that he is one of the star attraction for this game and tennis is just not same without him. Nole is a great talent and so is Andy but somehow these two cannot be compared to Fed and Nadal.
There was a time when I got bored of tennis and that was the time when Roddick and Hewitt were the leading player and tennis lacked a personality or two and then came TMF. I started to watch tennis again and then came Nadal who was the only one to give competiton to Fed. IMO Nadal gets lot of credit to popularise tennis as he got the best out of Fed.
Although Fed is reigning supreme but somehow I feel that this will be his last dominating season. The history is being made and Fed has achieved everything. I doubt very much that Nole will be able to rule the tennis world like Fed or Nadal did. It is not that I don't like Nole. I have watched him since he was coming up in the ranks and at times he does play the sublime game but somehow it will be tough for him to emulate Fed.
This post is about Nadal, so I wish him quick recovery and hope to see him in action soon,
Tennis is not same without Rafa

Well Said but however Nadal never ruled tennis like Federer.
In fact, Nole's Epic Year was better than Rafa's.
That being said Nadal is sorely missed in the men's game and hope he returns stat

Totally agreed but it won't be an exaggeration that he provided a perfect contrast to sublime Fed.

Of course the game misses one of its heavy weights and for the moment it may seem a little strange that he isnt in the draw.It does leave a big gap and one could argue that the game doesnt feel as competitive as it would be with him playing
But in fairness Nadal never really makes much of an impression this half of the season. The last 2 seasons he has done really well winning the U.S Open and making the final again but apart from that he fades to such a degree that he may as well be absent altogether,so for me it kinda feels normal
Now if he were out over the clay season then even I would miss him.Putting my personal opinion of him aside for the moment, even I have to admit that he is very unique, and I commend him for bringing variety and a different style to the game
That said, his fans may have to to get used to this,if his knees/condition is anywhere near as career threatening as its made out to be,then this could eventually become permanent much sooner then expected

Good article, however why dont you like Hewitt OP?
--------------------------------------------------
Somehow I always felt that Hewitt was to brash and too much attitude as well. He and Roddick never appeared to be humble either on or off the court. I was not a big fan of their tennis as well, not much variety I suppose.

Veejay
I am facing the same predicament, it's bit strange though for all us Nadull haters

Come Wimbledon time every year Hewitt would somehow do something special though TMF.
On another note Tsonga is my favourite followed by Nadal. Nadull

I used to be a Nadal fan,so I have nothing against his game or style.Nor do I have a problem with him beating Roger.
Imagine how boring tennis would have been if Roger was sitting with 25 grand slams winning everything all the time, even die hard Federer fans will have to agree that after a while his beautiful shot making isnt enough without a challenge or contrast to compare it to and appreciate it.Nadal has been a brilliant rival for Roger and he puts the magnitude of what Roger has achieved into perspective
Variety is the spice of life, thats why a player like Nadal is important for the game,I mean how boring was the Federer vs Wawrinka match, its like watching Nadal vs Ferrer
Everyone knows how I feel regarding his absence so I wont repeat it,but I agree the game needs the likes of a Nadal (but we can definitely do without his shenanigans)

yeah tennis isn't the same without "Nadull" as you like to call him. His absence at US open will give Fed good chance of winning 2nd slam in a row, which will be weird considering Fed has not been consistent enough in the last 2 years!

Why not Murray?

@Westley
Roger won Wimbledon with Nadal in the draw, theres no room for excuses,he was clearly the outright winner beating Murray and Djokovic comprehensively
Roger has also been a pro player for much longer then Nadal has,he has more matches in his legs which allows more room for wear and tear.Part of being a pro athlete is looking after your body. You really shouldnt penalise him because Nadal is out on injury. That fact that Federer at 31 is still competing at the highest level of the game, that deserves a lot of credit
Besides your comment makes no sense as Nadal has never stopped Federer at the U.S Open
