Gomis

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11781/8011488/Gers-eye-Gomis-move

Looks as if Ally is looking at trying to bring Morgaro Gomis in. According the acticle on sky it is possible that Birmingham will be willing to release him on a free transfer. Was part of a good Dundee United squad and although we have decent options in midfield I think he would be a good addition.

Thoughts?

"we cannot hope we get promoted and then change an entire side in one window"

We have a nucleus of SPL quality players at the club already......I'd be in uproar if the squad we have right now doesnt get promoted, let alone adding Gomis and umpteen other ex Serie A, ex Ligue 1, ex Bundesliga, ex wherever else.

Its the third division we are trying to win here.....part time clubs we are up against, and that'll mainly be the same in the second division....if we go up in the next three successive seasons, I'll guarantee you the team we have now will be utterly different to the team that kicks off out first SPL season, guarantee you that.

St3vie - so let's say Alexander, Wallace, McCulloch etc all pick up injuries.
We've got hee haw to cover them. So you're saying we pick up second division standard players to sit on our bench for a season and a half (unless injuries force them to have to come into the team) and tell them to poke it?

Aye, I'm sure a bunch of lads will be well up for that

We've got Alexander, Broadfoot, Cole, Perry, Wallace, Black, Hutton, McCulloch, Sheils, Hemmings, Kyle, Little, McKay, Naismith and Sandaza.....all either SPL players or players that were deemed good enough to be on the fringes of an SPL team.....thats 15 players there, whats the chances of ALL of them getting injured???

That list doesnt include McLeod who's getting a game and looking ok, Bocanegra who is still there, the lad Mitchell, about at least another 5 young lads, and also the guys we have just brought in Cribari, Faure and possibly this other keeper.

I'm not saying we dont need bodies, we do....but do we really need SPL quality bodies....really??

The point is, if a guy can stand out in the first or second division then he is more than capable of doing a job in the third and second divisions, and also, with better players around them, these guys will also likely improve too. Not only that, but they will have experience of playing in this country, in these leagues.....some tally or some frenchman might not have a clue about how physical these leagues are, how many kicks they will have to take, how many cloggers and strong big burly players they will face.

I just dont think we need to be going after Championship or ex top league around Europe players in order to have the advantage and higher level of squad needed to progress us over the next couple of years.....we need good players, but we dont need guys from a level we just dropped down four divisions from....Gomis was a candidate to sign for us when we were SPL title contenders!!

Bit of perspective needs to be applied somewhere....Gomis is not needed in my opinion, I'd take him, but no more of his calibre is needed, we have enough SPL quality players here, what we need now is gap fillers, and every single club has them.

People will come to us from other clubs in these divisions because we are Rangers and can pay a bit more in wages.....we dont need to be paying SPL wages to everyone

Gomis was a good player at DU. I'd take hime if a deal can be done. We could do with a midfielder or two.

well as has been stated we cant sign another player until Jan 2014 by which time we could be in SPL2

The players signed to date have been free and the wages paid will not be more in total that Steve Davis got.

The total Steve Davis got would likely pay an entire squad full of the opposition we are up against
