New to this, but after being a constant reader of the forum i have decided to join annd add my opinion to the debates. But, my first article is mainly to let off steam!
In years gone by, the trophyless years, i think most would agree that our defence was the major issue. Going forward we would have such talent as Fabregas, Hleb, Rosicky (when fit), Nasri, Van Persie, Adebayor (ruined his career through greed) and even Eduardo - if only he didnt get injured
At times, we would score goals for fun, but we just couldnt keep them out at the other end! Almuina in goal, Eboue, Toure, Senderos and Clichy was simply not stron enough and the cover was ridiculously poor for a club of Arsenals stature!
Now, what frustrates me is the fact we seem to have sured things up at the back but seem to be missing the quality up front what we used to have! If only Cesc and co would have stuck around that bit longer! We would certainly be one of the favourites this year! My main concern is that the same thing of previous years will now happen! The defence will perform superbly but we will fail to score enough! Leading to the outstanding defensive performers leaving to stronger teams!
Arsene has three days to make at least two, preferably three new signings to prevent this from happening! A creative midfielder and clinical striker being the most important - i dont understand the supposed 'need' for a defensive midfielder. Imagine this for a starting XI:
Szcezsny
Sagna Koscielny Vermaelen Gibbs
Arteta Wilshere
Cazorla Isco Podolski
Dzeko
Dreaming much? Oh well! Maybe one day Arsenal can challenge again!
How annoying is it?!

Thinking positively, if you reduce both the goals you score and the goals you let in in a 1:1 ratio the team is actually more likely to get more points.
Scenario 1: you play 50 games, score 100 and let in 50
Scenario 2: you play 50 games, score 75 and let in 25
In the second scenario you score 3 goals for every 1 you let in, in the first scenario you only score 2 goals for every 1 you let in. Same goal difference mind you!

That's a really good point, I hadn't actually thought about that before

Two 1 stars. Come on lads, play nice.
On a side note, welcome to the forum.

Having spent his entire career playing there, that's a bizarre statement.

Our style works best with a player in the middle linking play up and working it around. Cazorla is very good at that and has shown it in the short time he's had here. We shouldn't waste the ability he has to fit in Isco. If we don't feel our wide men are good enough, replace them.
Obviously wasted was a bit of a weird way to phrase it

Lady throwing a Wenger style paddy
Sorry Lady, and thanks for the welcome! I feel your change of rating was harsh though!
I suppose we just have to be patient with the new lads but two seasons of waiting for a new side to adjus is ridiculous! We can't keep rebuilding the team every summer! Or is that what the club has become now? Harsh reality!

Cazorla hasn't spent his whole career out wide, he has played in wider positions when needed. He's an attacking midfielder.

Fair enough

We don't need a first choice striker btw, we could do with a backup one though.

The implication is that he has been utilised in that position in numerous instances throughout the entirety of his career. I'm just crap at English.

Alright, I'll let it go this one time.

@ OP.
Good try but calm down, we've only played Sunderland and Stoke. Neither are great attacking teams.
We will see how much the extra work really pays off in the next few games against Liverpool, Chelsea, City etc.
Welcome anyway
