Just seen this

assessment of Modric on BBC sports website and it made me feel a little better in knowing we got a great deal for him.

"Good player but no more than a technically good pass and move midfielder, who are ten-a-penny in every Spanish academy. The same amount of league goals as Thomas Vermaelen in almost twice as many games for an attacking midfielder? Not convinced he's worth anywhere near £33m."

Thought i'd repost for any of those on here who are still unsure on modric sale being for the best.

yeh and for 8 minutes of the second half WBA had 80% possesion

at the end of the game at home to a poor team we had 50%
===============

after sandro went off.

it was nothing to do with modric.

also west brom are not a poor team imo. they have a good system, and good players.

perhaps after the first 20 mins where we had 80% possession we got complacent and lacklustre there after.

none of us would be surprised if this were the case.

Modric is a top player, You only had to watch him to see how gifted he was on the ball for us, he may not of scored goals or made lots of assists, but he kept the ball and passed it well, he is a good pass and move player (which is what makes him such a good player for us) He aslo used the ball very intelligently.

Had he been a striker he would have been poor, which is why he is a central midfielder

most passes in opposition half last season in prem league

yeh course we wont miss him ..

10 a penny....truly remarkable that this person has a job writing such nonsense.

Anyone who thinks we won't miss him is crazy, he made our team tick for the past 3 seasons, as many have said if we'd have had some decent strikers last year we could have finished 3rd and still have him

Modric was the heartbeat of the team - a class act, that's why Madrid wanted him despite their wealth of midfield options. You watch him go at Madrid now, playing with Alonso and Ozil - those three in tandem will be absolutely lethal, a perfect combo.

My only gripes with him is that he sometimes went missing away from home, and he wasn't one to take a game by the scruff of the neck if we were playing badly, not nearly as much as his talent would allow him to anyway

The goals thing gets on my tats too. People have been blinded by the amount of goals the likes of Gerrard, Lampard and Fabregas have scored in the past, and think that CMs should be prolific. They weren't central-midfielders in their pomp, they were second strikers essentially - two CMs playing behind them. I bet their CMs had pretty average scoring records too.

Modric plays as one of the two CMs. He hasn't played as an attacking mid (behind the striker) since the first couple of months of Redknapps reign when we were struggling. It's pure ignorance to suggest he is an attacking midfielder

I suppose Alonso isnt all that either? Virtually the same goals-per-game than Modric in the Prem (about 1-in-10). Xavi roughly the same - overrated.
