It seems Villas has like carlo decided to play josh as a defensive midfielder or deep lying playmaker for next season. Do you see josh permanently in this position or later moving on to his original position? He's not that good at tackling so i don't see a long term future for him as a dm.

But i feel josh is a much better dribbler than alonso and thus should be played further up the pitch especially cos i feel his tackling isn't up to standard even for a deep lying playmaker. BLUEISTHECOLOUR About villas's tactics, do you think lampard played as the Dm in the second half in a 4-2-3-1 with josh as the deep lying playmaker or the other way round? Same question with mikel and billy in the first half.

Izuta - temporarily I think Josh as a DM would really help his development, it would improve his passing, awareness, and even his defensive skills and reading of the game which is imoprtant for any midfielder in the 4-3-3. But I hope that this isn't his permenanet position, I think like you said heis dribbling and quick passing would be best used further up the pitch.

You don't get the same time and space to do that further up the pitch. That's why we go mad for players of the likes of Messi and Iniesta who can do it.
It is too early to say if Josh can be as good as these two.

But we've seen him have runs into that area, it's not out of question, and he doesn't nesccarrily have to be as good as those two if he was in his natural position does he? I reckon he could easily get to around as good as Nasri. I don't understand why we're comparing him to Messi though

I think he players there just to ease him in to the team. In that position he gets time on the ball and is not put under pressure too often. Also his tackling may improve which will just make him an all round better player when playing in his natural position in the future.

I think we'll all be very happy if he gets to nasri's level and absolutely chuffed if he gets to iniesta's. Those two players both played dm for a while during their development. Its crucial to know they both developed in less defensive minded leagues and so got used to creating higher up the pitch with less pressure than in england. Josh from the dm position can learn a lot. Hope he finds the transition back to attacking midfield easy though.

Izuta, I think he will, many midfielders started slightly deeper before going back to their natural position, like Fabregas, J.Cole and Adam
