I don't think we should guage a lot based on this game because portsmouth are a lot fitter than us currently and it showed yesterday. But a match is a match and some points have to be discussed from it no matter how insignificant it is. POINT 1 Anelka stayed out wide more rather than closer to the dm like last season. Early signs show that villas likes to keep one winger out wide on his favoured foot and the other cutting in unto his favoured foot from the wings. Sturridge on the right, malouda on the left. Anelka on the right, kalou on the left. POINT 2 He definitely wants creativity from deep as seen by mikel and josh's roles and passing patterns yesterday. POINT 3 Benayoun will have the burden of creativity in advanced positions for most of next season as long as he stays fit. Feel free to add any other things you noticed from yesterday's game.

What I got from yesterdays exercise was that we have an excellent prospect in Chalobah and that we need to increase the tempo of our play and fitness. Roll on the few new signings and Malaysia.

Big point I got is that we need some proper pacy, skilful widemen, and not just converted strikers if AVB's 4-3-3 is going to work
Chabloah (spelling?) looks an excellent prospect, and I thought Kalas looked solid too
