I think that Shotton is a player who can cover a few positions: centre back, right back and right midfield. He's probably known mostly as a right back, which we have fairly well covered with De Laet, Moore and SSL.

We were rumoured to be after Danny Higginbotham (from Stoke) earlier in the season. He can cover centre back and left back.

As we've now cancelled the contract of Tom Kennedy it means Paul Konchesky is our only left back. So a move for a left sided player seems more logical to me.

I think both would probably be alright at this level, but nothing to get really excited about.
