I understand that Essien has been linked with a move to Fernebache, and if true, I believe it would be a mistake to sell him. I am fully aware that he is not the player he once was, but he is still a very capable footballer, and when assessing our current options in centre-midfield, his place in the squad is highly warranted. Lampard is now 34 and cannot be relied upon to play in every game, Meireles does not possess Essien's defensive capabilties, Mikel cannot offer the dynamism Essien can, and while Ramires may be able to, he is only one player. Moreover, Romeu is still developing, and might I add that we do need some form of experience present in team if we are to be successful. Ultimately, unless Essien is adequately replaced in the remainder of this transfer window, which I would think is unlikely, then I would not agree with this move.

That's why we should have signed Dembele

If I was the one paying the wages then I'd sell Essien, he could get injured again and earn his wages for another year.

Tbh I think it'd be better to keep than sell..not saying we shouldn't sell him but we shouldn't force him out as well. As an experienced backup DM he would be good

Agree with BK.
But also, the FFP only counts for spendings done after a certain date - and this includes wages as well as transfer fees. So players who signed contracts before the set date do not count towards the FFP (despite how much they're on). So basically players like Malouda and Essien don't count against us - it's like having a free player.
