More Beckford Rumours.....

I was getting pretty tired of the whole Beckford debate a couple of weeks back. Does he bring anything to the squad, doesn't he bring anything, he doesn't love us, his heart is in Leeds (Leeds fans played their part).

Anyway, this all settled down which meant that we could concentrate our negativity back on to NP and the season ahead.

But now Beckfords agent is tweeting to say there has been interest in him.

Does anybody actually think he'll go?

Are we all bored of Beckford rumours?

I'm going to answer No and Yes respectively

But who bags 25+ at this level? Not many.
And who goes on to continue scoring 20+ after that??? Fewer. Let alone getting 20 a season.
18 or more from 2 of your team is a result nowerdays.

Not many playthepitch - usually two or three a season break the 20 goal mark. But those are the guys who almost inevitably play for the three clubs which will end up promoted, that's the point. Top scorers last season? Lambert, Vaz Te, Sharp. Season before? Graham, Holt, Long. The season before that QPR had Taraabt, Blackpool had Adam, Newcastle had Carroll.

You need one of those guys, who will get you a big tally, if you want to get promoted from this league. Do you believe any of our strikers other than Beckford can do that?

Agree with Thorney and Mersey, i want him out asap.

I'm with Emilio and Madness. I believe Beckford is the most natural finisher we have.

Problem is, Nigel seems to have a downer on him - QED, I have a downer on Nigel !

Makes me laugh when people call Beckford a natural finisher - not clinical at all.

King is arguably our only natural finisher.

Beckford very much a hit and hope with flashes of class when he doesn't have time to think.

King is our best natural finisher by a country mile, but Beckford is easily the next best (Vardy being unproven yet). I'd be surprised if he was let go as I think goals from Nugent, Vardy and Beckford will be critical to the success of the team.

If he was let go tomorrow it would likely be too late to get a replacement. In which case who is the third striker - Shlupp (possibly, but too inexperienced?), Waghorn (shadow of the promising player he was a couple of years ago) or Futacs (probably to be thrown on as sub in desparation as on Tuesday - not sure I'd want a season of lumping it up to him anyway).

He's absolutely not a natural finisher mersey - I think anyone can see that. But the reason he misses so many chances is because he gets in position to get a shot away in the first place. Along with King he's by far the cleverest player we have in terms of his movement. If his teammates had picked him out more often last season then, yes, he would've missed a lot more chances. But he'd also have scored a lot more goals!

Do the clubs get promoted because they have a 20 goal+ striker or does the striker score so many because he plays for a good team that are capable of getting promoted? It's probably a bit of both.

I'd wager that Vardy, Nugent and Beckford would all be capable of topping 20 goals if they played in front of a competitive, creative midfield rather than having to carry the team.

You honestly think King is a natural finisher and Beckford isn't ?!!

Before he joined Leicester, Beckford averaged a goal every other game - King is one in four. So is it just the fault of the player or of the manager who consistently fails to play him alongside a partner that will probably represent our best opportunity of doing something this season - Nugent.

I am a fan of Andy King but he is an attacking mid-fielder and not an out and out finisher.

I almost hope he leaves in the transfer window and knocks in 20 goals somewhere else. Leicester fans do like their headless chickens, who huff and puff.

Never liked that Lineker. Didn't defend enough!!!

TIM - I agree with you. I'm not saying Beckford isn't a good player who will do well in this division.

Prawn - my interpretation of a natural finisher is someone who when given an opportunity - 4 times out of 5 he'll take it. King is this type of player, Beckford is not. Beckford is a 1 in 4 chances man but I accept his ability may have created 2 of them.

As I said, I'm not his biggest fan but I can see his attributes. It just annoys me when people say "finishing" is one of them when it's clearly not.
