I've never liked loan moves. I like to have something you can keep and which belongs to you, rather than something you have to one day return.
If Carroll gives 100%, it could turn out to be a great signing. Am I contradicting myself in light of earlier comments?

Andy Carroll doesn't need to be tested - we know what he's capable of. A trial is more of a test.
It's just that he may turn out to be great and we'll have to return him.
