Appreciate this has probably be covered to death by now but kind of gutted we have missed out on him. Whilst I am pleased with the other signings and hope AVB can gel the team together - have we actually replaced Modric? - someone who makes the midfield tick? - Mouthinho would imo been that man so kind of peeved that Levy as usual leaves it to the last minute to try & finalise a deal. Oh well time will tell.

If AVB wanted Moutinho that's good enough for me - he picked out Mata and he's pretty decent.. also he looked quality at the Euros - one of those players that quietly keeps the team ticking over.
I can help but feel Dempsey and Dembele will be greater than the sum of their parts when played together.
Mousa to have a stormer today

Many of us fans wanted Moutinho but if you look at the overall deals we have made, Spurs are definately stronger. Yes we only have 2 recognised strikers but the we have goal scorers in Dempsey, Gylfi and our cracking wingers Bale n Lennon.
Yes Moutinho would have been that creative spark in MF but Dembele is a class act and so many friends I have who support other teams who rate Dembele highly, yes we have really captured a proven player here who may end up doing a quality job in MF. Plus we managed to keep Thudd

Taking account of all the above posts - you would have thought we would have signed him. Yes I know most of us haven't seen him play on a regular basis so probably going on what we have read / heard, however, he has regular champions league experience & has won things, which can only add to quality to our team.
Also taking account of what we actually spent in this transfer window and what we sold, it kind of levels out (more of less) so in theory we haven't spent nothing - would have thought Levy would have pushed heaven & earth to knab him (regardless of wage demands) - wouldn't mind knowing what he currently gets at Porto?

As Alfie says, the whole thing is a farce.
There is no way we could seriously have been trying to make our marquee signing with hours to go, and yet be unaware of his actual interest in joining us or personal terms, especially given his closeness to AVB.
Something stinks here.

AVB comments on why this deal never really took off

PedroCNN (a Portuguese journo on twitter) seems to think we were not only short on wages, but the transfer fee also. Porto have to pay a chunk of any fee to Sporting so no doubt they were fighting as hard as Levy for every penny.
AVB did warn us this would happen

Which of course begs the question how much Porto really wanted to let him go. Personal terms can mean anything, and One Can is right, no-one really knows how much he is earning over there.
We cant be proud one moment that we stick to our wage structure and then claim to be happy when/if we blow it on 1 player.
AVB will still have Porto and RM contacts in the January window. Lets at least see all our signings on the pitch before dissing them.
