Memories of Istanbul 2005...

I was down my Local and like a bear at half time , wouldn't talk just dragged on a ciggy with pain burning in my eyes, but something deep down said this isn't over if we can get a early one!! I dunno if people should start calling me mystic mahon or if it was more a screaming desperate hope inside for the pain I was feeling to go away!!!.

The rest well...it put me on cloud 9 for about 6 months and it still has a special feeling for me . I'd spent a large chunk of my time supporting Liverpool in the 90's, where we won 1 FA Cup and a League Cup. the treble under Houllier was a taste of what I had read about in all the history books but Istanbul was a taste and a whole lot more , we were living a epic historic joyful event which in the past was only seen in our minds eye.

One of the things I hold against Hicks & Gilette more then anything, is they ripped the fun Out of that night for me, I have been afraid to reminisce over that night for the last couple of years, as I was afraid Id never see anything like it again, we hadn't a hope with those 2 at the helm.

But now we do have hope and hope is everything that Istanbul stands for , just like the blind hope I felt as i pulled on that half time cigarette.

I'd like to thank everyone of the players and staff who were involved in Istanbul for that night a night we will never forget, I'd also like to thank my dad who passed away in early 2005, I feel if theres a god and a heaven he had God rooting for us .
