After an incredibly difficult and tragic year for that great country of Japan , their women's national team has tonight just won the World Cup , beating the yanks in the final in a penalty shoot-out.
And ironically they came from behind twice , two late equalizers in the 81st and again in the 117th minute ( in E.T. ) before winning it in a shoot-out - just shows what a resilient nation they are. Congratulations Japan.
In other breaking news , Brazil are knocked out of Copa America by Paraguay after incredibly missing all 4 penalties they took in a shoot-out!!!
Japan World Champions!!

Brazil missed all 4 penalties against paraguay and the USA women missed their first 3 penalties against Japan in the world cup final.
Did our chinese friends predict this year to be the "year of the missed penalty" or am I missing something here?

Lucas was sent off, along with Wigan's Alcaraz for Paraguay.

Congratulations Japan.
From being almost overrun in the first half to taking the game to extra-time and then win it on penalties was amazing. The overall skill of both sets of players (though some of them good do with more accurate shooting practice) allied to an outstanding display of good, consistent and sound officiating made this a game well worth watching.
Hope the men who pull the strings of the EPL and the referees who consistently mess up were watching and learned something. Somehow I doubt that very much.

Worst Brazilian side I have ever seen.
How can Lucas get a game for Brazil? I even question if Brazil didn't throw the game, with such a non attempt to win and then blatant penalty misses. All of them ? Come of it.

To be fair, the Paraguayan keeper made some god like saves in the second half to deny Brazil

Congratulations Japan. I think 99% of neutrals were hoping they'd do it.
Did anyone notice that just after they won the BBC commentator said '...and Japan goes into total meltdown?' An unfortunate choice of metaphor, I'd say.
