EPL Crazy Money

Just read this on the BBC website :

Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero is prepared to take a pay cut to join Manchester City.

He must be on some wage in Spain if he is taking a wage cut to join Man City! Or is the bottomless pit of money starting to slowly dry up?

Not sure the money is drying up
More likley it relates to "take home pay"
Probably a combination of our tax laws and the ruling regarding % of turnover to salaries which is due to kick in

True zachsda

Still, U.K. taxes are the highest, if not one of the highest in Europe.
EPL salaries for the top players are hugely inflated to compensate for this.
Top players on the continent have a "take home pay" not all that different to the EPL.

This is true.

Birmingham City wanted to sign Mauro Camoranesi last season and a deal was close we had agreed £50K a week but then the player found out he would only pick up just over £25K a week but wanted £35K take home, we could not pay him £65K+ a week and so no deal was made as we already went up from £40K-50K a week.

The player was going to come down from his 70K Euro wage (£58K a week) to a 60K Euro deal but then £50K a week in England would earn you less than £50K in Italy due to higher taxes.

Ah 'The Arshavin Principle'

Duly named after Arshavin realised (after signing) he was on 10k less a week at Arsenal due to the 50% tax!

Yep its Crazy and so is our Tax System.

We was also looking 2 seasons ago at Kevin Kuranyi as a free agent and was going to offer him £50K a week but his agent said he wanted £70K so we decided to go for that and smash our record Wage signing of Duggary all those years ago.

But then Kuranyi said he wanted £70K NET so that meant we would have had to paid him £130K a week before Tax.

No Prem Club would have paid him that kind of money so he went to Russia for $100K a week Tax Free.
