From the Telegraph
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas missed out on the Burnley job in 2010 because Turf Moor chiefs were left confused by his PowerPoint presentation. In his forthcoming autobiography, former Burnley chief executive Paul Fletcher writes: "The language and jargon of football gets worse by the day. Villas-Boas uses a lot of it. Would Burnley players have ever understood what he wanted if he'd told them to 'solidificate' or some of his other terms?"

Imagine if everyone agreed on all things Spurs. How dull that would be!
Nothing wrong with a debate.
p.s. I think Levy has done wonders for our club and playing Verty at left back maybe worth a try

I dont agree with Vert at LB. I'm not even sure about him at CB, so to play him in his more unfamliar role, just because our first choice LB had a bad game or two, for me would be a bad move.
What i didnt understand, and what i was trying to get out of the debate, was why Weare thought we should play him there. What evidence is there (other than we know he has played there), ie. what are his strengths? Is he a static LB, or is he a wing back type? And without knowing all this stuff, i thought it was a bit ill thought through, thats all.
If we have injuries in a position, then by all means throw someone in there - but when we already have a trusty LB at the club, i would personally rather we didnt throw in an unknown quality.
But as you say, this is just my opinion - nothing more nothing less. And its certainly not a "dumb" comment. If anything, its contructive whether you agree with it or not.

To be honest, part of me only said it in jest. But another part of me thinks that if BAE carries on with his poor form, I would play Verty there as he featured as left back for both club and country before, he seems to like to come forward and has a decent left peg, scoring 18 goals in the last two seasons at Ajax.
Admittedly, I have never seen him play this role. But then, think back to a couple of seasons ago when Bale was moved to left mid, he'd played there sporadically for Southampton, but never for Spurs.
I know we are talking about different positions, but occasionally you have to take risks in order to be a success.
If BAE comes back to form, then leave it be, but if he doesn't, i'd try Verty.

I kind of knew the Bale example may surface, but very rarely can a player switch positions & be as effective as the club's current No.1 in that position. Certainly not to Bale's level.
With respect, your opinion on Vert playing LB is pretty much on the same lines as Weare, which is the simple fact you are aware he's played there before.
Naughton has had far more experience playing LB than Vert, but Vert is the only one in the picture to dislodge BAE - which i think is purely because he is a new signing & cost double figures.
Bassong was an okay LB, but no-one craved for him to dislodge BAE, except for when we had injuries - which is fair enough.
I'm not sure we need to make such drastic gambles, as in dropping a player whose trade is LB, for one who "can play there" which we dont know enough about.
But thats just me with my "common sense head" on i suppose.
BAE hasn't been our worst player though, Bale has been pretty poor in all 3 games, but i doubt anyone would suggest throwing Sigurdsson, for example, out on the LW in place of Bale - for the same basis as i've used for Vert/BAE, i expect.

clearly as things stand benny shouldnt be dropped.
however, i am looking for a big improvement in his attitude if nothing else.

I'm not saying BAE should be dropped now. All I am saying is if he doesn't improve in the next few games, then he should be. Verty or or Naughton will be fine. We can't have players give consistently bad performances and assume they will be in the team the next week. This was one of 'Arrys failures, no matter how the players performed, he would always choose the same eleven, it was infuriating, and ultimately, cost us a CL place.
I would definately drop Bale if he continues as he is. I don't think anyone should be untouchable. This is why we have a squad. Teams like United and Arsenal rotate frequently, and I believe we have as good a squad as both (if not better, in Arsenals case).

I dont recall the player's performances being that bad under Harry (bar one or two), it was more the results that went downhill. In our blip at the end, i saw us dominate United, Chelsea & Sunderland, just for starters, but only pick up 2 points.
This season, bar little spells in the West Brom & Newcastle games, we have been poor on the pitch & on results.

There were plenty of poor performances in a run of about 12 games by the likes of Bale, Parker, VDV to name a few, with Sandro, Kranjcar and Defoe waiting in the wings.
I don't remember dominating against United, it was pretty even and they scored on the stroke of half time. The second half was also even, but they scored a couple more. We also got that spanking against Arsenal and plenty of poor results against likes of Norwich, QPR, Stoke, etc.
I agree with you that we have been poor so far this season though. However, I still believe AVB needs more time before getting on his back.
