S.A.F

I did an article a while ago asking whether Man Utd or SAF in particular may have been the reason Tevez has become such a see you next thursday

I had mainly comments defending the great man, which is fair enough in light of his achievements for our club.

However in light of Berbatovs ''outburst'' I cant help but think that there was maybe more truth in what I said than even I thought.

Not just those things but the way some of the youngsters have moved on, we as fans have had a go at them for being greedy or whatever, but maybe the answer is closer to home?

Of course some will see this as a wum article or whatever, but its not meant as one. I just think that tevez and his ''change' of attitude after UTD and now Berbatov and all the hoo haa from fiorintina etc seems to be against the nature of the players before joining UTD and brings out the worst after. Maybe they think if one of the biggest clubs in the world can trat us like this f cuk loyalty lets get what I can for me

Now we hear about nani aswell and see his performances for Portugal which IMO are WC and for us tend to be not on the same level, is it th eplayer or the management?

i honestly believe had berbatov not come in, tevez would have stayed at OT, and would have gone onto become a unted cult figure.
______________

Tevez would have cost us £40m+ in total (loan fees + transfer fee), not including wages. His second season did not justify that sort of money and no way would SAF have spent it, Berba or no Berba.

Berbatov is in the top five strikers in the world. The trouble is, he never had the desire to be that player on the pitch, and presumably in training.

In his first season I lost count of the amount of times he came deep to collect the ball, pass it out to the wings, then stand and watch while the midfield ran past him tring to get into the box.

In his first season only the goalkeeper covered less ground (so I read) and Berba was critical of himself after the season about his work ethic. To me, that is utter BS. Work ethic is a choice, not a skillset

As for being a fan of Sir Alex, why wouldn't I be? We all know he makes mistakes. I just do not believe he has made any mistakes with Tevez and Berba.

I grow weary of people going on about his Golden Boot season. 11 of his 20 goals came in just 3 games in which 2 of them were total and utter thrashings of poor opposition and I'll never forget his attrocious attitude and display at Blackburn when Rooney got injured and we needed him badly to step up to the plate. That game cost us a title and I have no doubt that if Rooney had not got injured, We would have beaten Chelsea to that title.

Berba has brought us some special moments but those were far to few and far between for our still record signing

Sorry, it's just my opinion and I know it won't sit well with some.

You can't compare Tevez to Scholes or Giggs (or even Evra).
They are long term servants to the club who haven't caused an iota of trouble.
Tevez doesn't deserve to ever be in the same league as those guys

having said that, there are players who have failed to perform over the last few years that fergie has kept faith in for some unknown reason.

Agreed but with Berba, his poor games were down to his own attitude on the pitch. That's what irks me.

As I said in the previous article I could be wrong, but i had never heard a bad thing about Tevez and/or Berba. Once leaving UTD they seem to be in a sort of anger mode.

I'm a Berba fan but, to be fair, he did have a bit of a sulk at Spurs before joining United!

That said, I think that Fergie handled the situation badly. With Tevez I'm not so sure because Tev comes across as an idiot to me and we only heard his petty and spiteful version of events. What Berba said was fair enough imo. Tev was out of order. And at least Berba had the decency to wait until he had left the club before airing his feelings.

Mr. Macca, i know you are an acolyte of SAF but no matter how you slice it, Berbatov was (and still is) a better player than Welbeck

------------------------------------

The thing is, great teams are based on successful blend of players. If it were about just accumulating the best players, Real's galaticos would have won the CL five years in succession. Berbatov is a more talented player than Welbeck (and Rooney for that matter) but he isn't a better component in our team if his style doesn't fit in with the collective game plan. Berbatov's slower game didn't complement the rapid interchanges to which our other attacking players were better attuned. His relatively introvert personality - it seemed looking in from outside - didn't quite match the demented 'we must win' spirit that Fergie has inculcated in the club culture. So, yes, Welbeck isn't (right now) as accomplished as Berbatov but I'd argue he was a better fit with Rooney and the rest of the first XI last year.

(Similarly, I argued above that Saha suited us better than Tevez, although the latter was a better player.)

I agree Berba was indolent. But so is Rooney with his overweight self who then had the temerity to question the ambition of our club and fans cheer him and even award him 'legend' status.

Anyhow, Berba and Tevez are long gone. Time to move on really.
