Wasn't bothered about watching England tonight - years of disappointment have totally destroyed my interest so much that I've got to the point now where if Terry, Lampard, Gerard and Defoe are in the team I'm not watching anymore.
However, with the news Carrick was going to start tonight I quite fancied watching the game and seeing just what could have been all these years.
Surprise surprise he isn't selected. Who is in the central midfield? Gerard, Lampard, Milner.
Why bother. If I was him I'd be on the plane home right now saying, I tried but what's the point.
Feel sorry for the lad. Cleary is a unique different option that team is crying out for but yet again has to sit on the bench and watch.
Roy is a top class clown. Why bother bringing a player back if you're not going to play him. As bad as it is to say this but I hope we play badly tonight. Really have lost patience with the whole set up and this stuck in a rut repetive playing of players who've had their chance and failed.
As for Defoe up front. What a joke. The Spurs reserve leads our attack.
Again, Wellbeck has a promising Euro's where he is picked ahead of Defoe and then Roy does this.
Come on Moldova and Ukraine.
Carrick For England. Dream On.

He's better now, will he be better in 2 years when the actual competition starts?

In terms of technical attributes, there isn't a facet of Defoe's game that holds a candle to Welbeck's. Defoe is a good finisher granted, but the rest of his game is pretty rubbish really.

I also don't understand the seemingly unbreakable faith in James Milner every England manager seems to have. I wish I was the manager.

Your opinion, not mine. The whole idea of a striker is to put the ball in the net isn`t it. I happen to thnk Welbeck is clumsy.

In theory. But the very reason you Spurs fans wanted a new striker is because you want a frontman to offer a bit more than decent finishing, isn't it? Welbeck needs to improve infront of goal but he's a better footballer, n no doubt.

Why would Welbeck get the nod over Defoe, he has not been picked by Fergie all season

I think the bottom line here is why bring a player out of retirement to be a sub. which was the reason he retired anyway. The sooner parker and Barry are fit the better and we can have carrick back where he is associated.

Looked like they were playing without strikers although they scored five...wow a guy like Van Persie woulda scores ten with all the chances.
