Just following an earlier article.
I was on a course last week and one of the delegates was from Madrid; an Athletico supporter.
He was saying that Torres was frustrating as a player and generally not held in high regard by the fans. His form was akin to his Chelsea form and his best days (according to this guy) were at Anfield.
Thought it was interesting to share...

Torres is crap
The evidence is conclusive

What did he think of Aguero?

Torres scored 91 goals for Atletico, was the club captain at the age of 19 and was the terrace favourite. Your delegate friend is either lying or bitter.

I think he's even less popular since he signed for the rent boys.

Have always said that Torres was neither as good as his Liverpool form suggested, nor as bad as what he'd shown at Chelsea.
He himself said in the past that PL football suited his game better, so I suppose his strike rate should be somewhere in between his Atlético and Liverpool form.
Yes, he was a huge fan favourite at Atlético, and yes, he scored 91 goals, but they came from almost 250 appearances for them, and he was the team's penalty taker - that's far from spectacular going for a striker.
Btw, wouldn't surprise me if the Atlético fan you met was of the staunch antimadridista variety, because Torres famously never managed to score for Atlético in a derby. That would very likely have increased his sense of frustration.

OK, sorry. That is simply the impression I was given when he moved to Liverpool.

The thing about torres is,he always becomes a fan favourite on the pitch, but is less than convincing when recipricating it.He just does'nt seem or come across as genuine to me.
I even think he would go to real madrid if they wanted him.

Brendan, bear in mind that it was only one fan you spoke to - no doubt he doesn't speak for himself alone, but I wouldn't say that's a general sentiment. I spent 25 years in Madrid, and still live in Spain. I know a good number of Atlético supporters and I'd say that they generally still hold Torres in high regard.
At the end of the European Super Cup game, for example, the Atlético fans in Monaco chanted Torres' name. Torres himself paraded the Atlético flag during Spain's European and World Cup victory parades and is definitely a die-hard Atlético.
Hard to know, but I honestly think he wouldn't play for R.Madrid even if he had the chance to - and I don't think Madrid fans would welcome him too warmly either.
