The Tottenham Centre Back Debate

Lets have a frank discussion regarding our centre back options.

I want people to rank the centre backs we have at the club in order of preference to start games, assuming all fit.

There has been much debate on here recently regarding Dawson and whether or not he should be in the team. Opinion on here is divided about 75% against him playing and 25% for him playing.

I would be interested to see how people rank our defensive options.

In my opinion, should all be fit, the order of selection should be.....

1. Kaboul
2. Vertonghen
3. Caulker
4. Gallas
5. Dawson

The problem is, its not quite as simple as that. For example, if Kaboul is injured (like now) then as per my list I would have Caulker step in, BUT as Vertonghen is new to the league and needs to settle, and quickly, I would prefer to play him alongside an old experienced head like Gallas to talk him through it a bit more.

We then come onto the debate of partnerships, which partnerships do you think would work best and why?

Kaboul has to be in every first choice partnership for me, its just who plays alongside him.

Over to you fellas... lets try and get a good debate going on this topic.

Yes, Naughton did okay.

My only gripe would be that he conceded too many free kicks around our box.

If we do that against teams like Stoke or even West Ham, we're likley to get punished.

All in all, a good effort.

YEAH...HE DONE OK.....

he'll be fine in games like that at home.....mind....benny's been all over the shop aint he....

still....shld serve too wake benny up....if naughton continues in that vein....

Agreed. That had goal of the season written all over it. Although, i thought the idea to hit it the way he did was okay, and it was clear to see what he was trying to do. Maybe he was over confident, i dont know - but i bet he scores that type of goal 10 times out of 10 in training.

yeah...was a sure way of keeping it away from the keeper...but...left all the way...

just goes too show...that instinct and time plays a part for a pro too...

his second...he had no choice or time too think about any other way of hitting it...so just struck thru the ball with his left...

when he broke thru...he had time too decide what too do...

I was watching the game with a few pals (inc 2 West Ham fans), when one of them turned to me & asked if Defoe can use his left foot. Next minute, he picks the ball up, runs half the pitch & knocks it in with his left.

Priceless moment.

Bale's in defence of Chicken I don't believe he said Vert wouldn't be good at LB, he was just after some reasons why it would be a good idea - what his strengths/weaknesses are, and how he would be an improvement on Benny.

It was my opinion that he looked good there for Belgium and was worth a try is all.

Yes, he played a blinder there. But as HRH says, i didnt claim he couldnt play there, but more why you thought he should play there. If you'd said he makes blinding runs down the flank blah blah blah, this would have been better than "he's played there for Belgium".

He has very influential though, i agree.
