Over the preceding years the prices of englishmen have skyrocketed. With andy carroll becoming the most expensive ever englishmen, this took a whole new meaning of extortion.
Carroll's 35m, downing's 18.5, Ferdinands 29m, Lescott's 22m, Wright-Phillips' 21m, Carrick 18.6m and need i mention hargreaves 17m!
The question is, the english are so over-priced and often dont match the price with quality, who do you think is the last englishmen to completely justify a huge price tag?
Another good one to branch off on to is, which englishmen whose transfer fee has been 15m or more is
a) the closest to justifying the price
and
b) the furthest away to justifying the price?
The last reasonably priced Englishmen

Adam Johnson was really a steal by City. Would love city to give us Adam Johnson + 20m for Nasri.

Gary Hooper for celtic (£2.5million) last season?
Outscored £35 million Carroll the year before in the championship and had the best strike rate of any striker in britain last season.
Cole to Chelsea was a great signing as was Lampard for £11 million, both more than repaid their transfers.

In hindsight, an absolute STEAL!

Smalling for £10M was a bargain IMO. Also the £30M spent on Rio was well worth it.
