Now that we have signed Gevrinho

and that kid who are not likley to use what next???

Admittedly i have not seen much of Gervinho, aside from his forehead, but am i the only who thinks that he is NOT a cup winning signing? Not alone anyway (and i say alone knowing full well we signed that kid who wont play other than at practice).

IMO, we need to further re-inforce the squad and this is vital in the areas of LB, DM cover/competition for Song and an out and out striker.

Thoughts?

He's won a cup so therefore he's a cup winning signing

he's lost more than he has won as well....

Firstly, I think Jenkinson will get games, unless we have an unheard of injury free season.
Secondly, of course Gervinho is not a trophy winning signing on his own. Even signing Messi wouldn't guarantee us winning trophies.

Doubt we will sign a Left Back. Gibbs, Traore and Vermaelen as a third option is enough.
Not sure we will sign a DM. Frimpong looks to have caught Wengers eye, and with Song, Diaby, Wilshere and Ramsey already competing for 2 places I doubt Wenger will strengthen in this area.
A striker I think is possible, but it won't be an established big money striker. We have RvP, Chamakh, Walcott and Gervinho who are capable of playing up front (assuming NB goes), with even someone like Afobe or Jay Emmanuel-Thomas as possible back ups.

With Fabregas and Nasri looking more likely to stay another season, an attacking midfielder like Mata is less likely.
With Vermaelen, Koscielny, Djourou, Squillachi, Bartley as CB options another CB is not likely.

Wouldn't be surprised if no other signings are made, especially established players.

D' Jeez as you say it is very unlikely that we will have an injury free season to our key players. My worry is that the players we have consisitently failed to deliver, and thus the need to recruit, as we all agreed at the end of last season when we imploded.

Now after two petty cash signings, everything seems to be good with sufficient cover for this and that player etc. My issue is not really with sufficient numbers to cover for LB or DM, or as GK but the quality that is pushing for a starting jersey.

Take RvP out of the starting line up as he inevitably will be due to injury, and what do we have? Yes we have people who can play as strikers but not who can improve on his goalscoring record or at least hold up the slack.

we have this same problem in the LB, DM, GK and to some extent the attackin midfielder though with the recent emergence of Wilshere and Ramsey this looks to be covered.

Given this, do you seriously think that we can go on to win any cup with this current squad without further re-inforcing it?

Vela is the answer.

4-4-2 - RVP/Chamakh with Vela/Walcott playing alongside
4-4-1-1 Arshavin playing balls over the top for Vela/Walcott

That's a cup winning formation!

hahahaha.....u r joking right?

Vela....honestly? You cant honestly be proposing that Vela is the answer to all our striking problems?

The guy can hardly make the bench in the resevres team!!!

His positioning is magnificent, he is quick, has skill, can shoot, can think on his feet
In a 4-4-2 he would constantly be getting on the end of rebounds/getting to the heart of the defence to just tap in the ball
With a good partner, Vela could be our best striker yet.
Watch any game, any game and you will see he is constantly in the box, around the area, just to hook onto loose balls, slipped passes, trying to get forward and get passes to him to just slide behind the defence
All he needs is a run of games. Your lack of faith in the crazy Mexican is astounding

Major, the key operative words there are "crazy Mexican" (much love to my Mexican hombres and senoritas)... but i dont think Vela can cut in the squad.

Look at it like this, Nicklas is a better player than him, and NB is leaving due to lack of game time. Now if we turn to and rely on Vela where will that leave us and what does it say about us?

Desperate maybe?

I'm not saying turn around and start relying on Vela, I'm saying change the formation, change the tactics and intergrate him a bit more.
If Bendy wasn't leaving, I'd want him involved so much more than he already is because he's a quality talent.
And I'm confused to how we'd be desperate if we put Vela in the team
