Pens

Is it me or has the quality of penalties declined over the last few years? Not just at Spurs but in world football? As a kid we were told to pick a corner and just t wat it as hard as you could using your instep so you were still in control of the ball.

It's beyond me that professionals seem fairly incapable of doing this! Stuttering run ups, slow run ups waiting for the keeper to dive or lame attempts at mugging the keeper off with a chip have all been seen already this season alone! Many takers, if not trying any of the above, also seem incapable of putting it near the corner with keepers making fairly routine saves quite often.

What is the problem here?? Players are only human but if you can teach technique in pretty much all other areas, with some players capable of routinely picking a team mate out 60 yards away, why is it increasingly impossible for many players to beat the keeper from 12 yards?

Nowadays I expect a save more than a goal which is completely backwards!

South Korea in the Olympics took 5 of the best penalties I've seen in a long while. Keeper had very little chance with any of them

Well so would anyone if he was shot dead on the floor!

Lampard takes the best penalties IMO, low and hard - the keeper stands no chance and he never misses.

Danny Blanchflower never missed & stroked the ball home!

Given the figures there he's scored around 88% of all the penalties he's taken - not too shabby.
