Manchester United winger Ashley Young has been ruled out for two to three weeks with "bruised cartilage", Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed. The 27-year-old missed out on the England squad for the World Cup 2014 qualifying double-header against Moldova and Ukraine earlier this month, and Ferguson now expects to be without the player until October. Ferguson confirmed the problem on Friday afternoon at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's game against Liverpool. The United boss also said midfielder Darren Fletcher would play from the start in Wednesday night's Capital One Cup tie at home to Newcastle. The Scotland international came on as a substitute in the 1-0 Champions League win over Galatasaray in midweek, his first competitive outing since last November. The player has an inflammatory bowel condition.
Sir Alex Ferguson: "I know there were reports in the paper about Rooney being possible, but that is not the case. He's not far away, I think he may be fine for next week. He's doing a lot of great training and has been working hard. It's just a matter of getting him into the full football training side of things."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will bring back all his big names on Sunday. Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Glen Johnson, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger, Joe Allen and Martin Kelly were all rested for Thursday night’s 5-3 Europa League win at Young Boys but will return as the Reds go looking for their first Premier League victory of the season. Forwards Fabio Borini and Raheem Sterling, substitutes in Switzerland, are likely to start while midfielder Jonjo Shelvey pressed his claims for inclusion with a two-goal second-half cameo.
Brendan Rodgers: "(Jonjo Shelvey) has been outstanding. He is still only 20 years of age and is developing and growing all the time and you saw his confidence when he came on. His (first) goal (against Young Boys), we worked it very well and he did what he can do very well and I think he will be a big player for Liverpool."

Evans shouldn't even have been on the park to concede that penalty so Liverpool were lucky that he was. More luck for Liverpool yet again.
