Huddersfield Town 2 v Watford 3

Venue John Smiths Stadium
Date Saturday 29th September 2012
Kick Off 3 pm.

Welcome Watford to the John Smith’s Stadium, Its our first league fixture against Watford since our ill fated season of 2000-2001, when we were relegated on the last day.

Somehow don’t think Town will have any relegation fears this time around.

Town head into the encounter on a terrific run of games, including 6 points from Sheffield Wednesday & Blackpool both away from home, & currently lie in 2nd place in the Championship table. We could be top at 5 pm Saturday, as leaders Brighton don’t play until 5.20 against Birmingham at the AMEX, so if we win our stay at the top shouldn’t be for too long.

Current Form : last 6 games Town D W D W W W
Watford L W L L L D

Watford are currently in their 6th successive season in the 2nd tier, they were relegated from the Premier League in 2007 after previously beating Leeds United in the Play Off final in 2006.

In July this year Watford were taken over by the Pozzo family from Italy , & since that they have been somewhat brutal in their approach, shipping in 14 Udinese players, & unfairly sacking Sean Dyche to bring in Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola, who hasn’t started too well, ( lets hope that continues until after the weekend )

Town’s form is better than any of us Town fans come imagine, The signs were good early on when we should have beaten Cardiff, We lost Rhodes, but still kept scoring goals, Our defence is sound With Lynch (pin) Gerrard & the re-born Clarke, Left & right back seem sorted with Hunt & Dixon, our midfield is superb, Southern & Norwood especially. Southern is the type of midfielder we have been crying out for for years, wingers, Scannell, Hamill & another rebirth Danny Ward. Still a bit short up top for me, would like to get Beckford/Church. Yes Novak has scored in his last 2 games but his first touch is a bit dodgy, but a good player to come on. Vaughan, SIGN HIM UP If Norwich allow..

Prediction , Town to win 3-1

Gate 14,520.

If we do win, the gate, attendance for the Leicester game may push 17000 ,17,500.

Happy days being a Town fan.

Mindset.

We started the season wanting to get enough points to stay up, maybe a possible mid-table position. We have been playing carefree football, I think that Blackpool thought that they only had to turn up the other night, play some passing football & beat us 3 or 4, WRONG, we are far better than that, How long before teams change there mindset when playing Town.

If the terrific form continues, will our players themselves start to believe the hype that will come with our continuing good form ?

That’s where Grayson has to come into his own, keep the boy’s feet firmly on the floor, so far this year he has been spot on, great signings & in particularly blew Holloway away tactic wise on Monday.

Category C match & the Groupon deal, ideal opportunity to get down & support the boys.

Enjoy the game.

loui.
maybe the common denominator in towns best performances/results being NOVAK in the team is a better reason for him to play other than his never stop running attitude???
maybe...
beckford looks like he needs a few games, we dont really want someone starting a few games who looks well off the pace..

- Seems clear that Beckford is a bit rusty, looked to tire quickly after a quite lively start when he was clearly our biggest threat getting in behind their defence.
- The midfield has an off-day, they never got into any kind of rhythm, Norwood in particular was poor and nothing seemed to be flowing as neatly as it has in the last few games.
- The defence seemed quite comfortable until they got their first and then we completely went to pieces. Their 41 should have been hacked down a few times instead of being allowed to wonder into the box, take a booking and then get back in position - don't just let him run past you and get into the box.
- We missed James Vaughan badly, he's such a big asset to the team and we looked a bit lost up front without him - Beckford isn't the type of player to chase defenders down and hold the ball up, and Novak isn't good enough to do that job.
- Well played Big Al taking his chance when he came on, in the space of 10 minutes he scored with a brilliant header and caused them trouble winning flick-ons into the box. He probably won't earn a starting place with that cameo but he's shown he can be a plan B from the bench when needed.
- Massive reaction needed on Tuesday, I'm heating Vaughan won't be fit for Leicester or Birmingham and Beckford presumably will be unavailable, so I imagine Novak on his own up front with Ward and Scannell either side of him. We need to win really to get back the momentum we had ahead of the weekend.

Don't like these injuries....what's up with Vaughan ? Dale Tempest wrote that Vaughan risks injury too much by the way he flies into challenges, and hinted he took a knock on his ankle at the end of the Blackpool game by doing just that. So we got beckford who didn't do enough and Vaughan who does too much !!..

Seriously though, we have a problem on Tuesday...Ward didn't impress me much yesterday so I'd bring Scannell in for him and play Novak with Alan Lee up top with Spencer on the bench. Otherwise the same team who have played well up to yesterday.

Anyone who said Alan Lee was not up to this level is an idiot, the guy obviously has a role to play, and at least he puts in 100% every game. If he can win the free kicks within 30 yards Norwood could fill his boots with the sort of free kick he scored with yesterday.

Am still smarting over Novaks horrendous miss from 2 yards out in 2nd half...it only needed a side foot to score, but he missed the ball completely. Not a moan at Novak, just a statement that we must take our chances.

When's the Leicester thread up ?

How come I missed the £24 for 2 in the LB Lower offer...I wondered why that was packed on Saturday...
