The East Midlands Derby

Apparently it's going to be played this weekend.

You may not have heard of it. Not many people in the footballing world have and, if they have, they don't really care. But if you live in Nottingham or Derby then, I'm informed, you get really excited about it - almost to the point of sexual ecstasy.

Anyway for those less informed I'll educate you:

It's a perennial lower league fixture played between two sides who haven't won any silverware in this millennium and traditionally decides who is the second best team in the East Midlands.

That's about it really ....

This is a post from 12 months back still applies now.

To put some perspective on the discussions that continue on these boards.

I would like to clarify from an older fans point of view the history of local rivalry.

During the 30 year period 1950 to 1981, Forest and Derby were only in the same division 8 times, yes Eight.

The rivals in those days were Forest v Leicester who were in the same division for 18 seasons. Majority of which was the top tier Divn one.

This means the Derby / Forest issue has only come about since the arrival of the great Brian Clough. Without him neither team would have won anything in the last 60 years.

By the way Derby did spend time in the 3rd tier during this spell.

As Forest did also.

Leicester had this misfortune for one season recently.

I also agree from the geographical position of Derby and Forest it is natural
to consider them as rivals.
But this only started once the A52 was built.

It is also worth noting that the FA cup has not been won by either of these teams since the 50's. Hardly registering in cup finals for which Leicester
have been in 3 as runners up.

Come on the East midlands

No, but the arguement you put forward that MO'N wouldn't have been a successful manager without his playing days at forest is

"For the record, and I have no previous on this, Derby is the only rival; Leicester are 'another' Championship team. Sorry."

You've just done it again!!! The point was that you don't need to tell us. Whether we, as Leicester fans, perceive a rivalry with Forest, Derby or any other club is personal to each fan. But it simply isn't a really important part of our identity. Why you feel the need to apologise is beyond my comprehension.

Or as Dungeon Master put it more succinctly:
"If you all need this group bum-in to affirm yourselves then I guess that's up to you."
