After that Barnsley game, i was seething like everyone else... and like everyone else I was pretty much of the opinion that Clark had to go...
After I had cooled down I thought about the match and the injuries we currently have. The problem may be that Blues never have any kind of shape to the team when we don’t have a recognised full back in the team (even when CH was in charge we had a few stinkers due to injuries to full backs). The Barnsley game was so, so poor it is hard to point to a single factor, but when a team has shape, the players have purpose, they know what to do and who to pass to, and when a team doesn’t have shape, players can very easily become lost and look like (as we did) a pub team off the back of a weekend long stag do.
I do still have issues with LC's team selection when he has to switch his team around to accommodate such injuries, but what strikes me most is that it seems that if we can get a recognised full back of 'almost' any quality, then we can perform as a unit...
The recognised full back of 'almost' any quality in this case being Paul Robinson......
I’m no expert on Paul Robinson, as i've not seen much of him. I have only formed an opinion so far from what I have heard and read on here. However, I think that as long as we have someone who has experienced in this position, they will know who to mark, where to position themselves, know when to make a run and more importantly, know how to link up with his winger…. qualities Curtis Davis, Hayden Mullins and Pablo Ibanez (and to a lesser extent Jonathon Spectre) don’t have. And, in Paul Robinson, it seems we have this… even if he may be lacking in quality (which, like I say, is only an opinion formed from what I have heard, rather than seen)
So im glad I didn’t post a ‘Lee Clark out’ article last week, like I wanted to. I don’t think we will push for automatic promotion this year, but if we can get through this period with Robinson and Spectre at full back and keep that shape until Murphy and Caddis return, then I think we will be ok.

Football's all about passion and if it didn't have the ups and downs, with fans screaming for the manager's head then cheering him, nobody would watch it!
