Good afternoon guys,
I made a drastic decision on Friday, potentially life-changing and definitely scary!!
I packed in my job to go self-employed
I have some financial backing, a business plan, a target market, etc, etc...
I also have some time and leeway to get it off the ground as I am under no immediate financial pressure.
What I don't have is a Company (Trading) name. There is a lot of intelligence on here, so I would welcome suggestions and then I can check whether domain names and Social Networking have the name available to use.
The business is an IT consultancy, specialising in Spreadsheet, Data Analysis, general PC troubleshooting, Training, etc.
Thanks in advance
P.s. No more updates from the inner sanctum
Help, Advice and Suggestions please??

Hi CEF, I hope it all goes v well for you. IMHO, your choice of name depends largely who you will be selling to. If you are looking at large corporates, corporatey type names works, if the tech dept of medium sized firms, a techy name, if small business and individuals, a memorable catchy name. At the risk of everyone laughing at me, also the old sell the sizzle not the steak thing could apply. You could describe what you do, or how you help. Great advice as above is to check out web urls available, see how the name looks on print and online, and also spend longer doing business plan and cash flow projections than playing with logos! Lastly, why do people buy products? Fear is a great motivator...sounds to me like you are aiming to be in the "I'd be lost without it' market for IT. Trade on that, at the risk of sounding punning and cheesy, Safetynet IT?

Spectrum Services, your tag line could be something simple like, for all your IT needs.
Spectrum Services is short and easy to remember, Don't go for something long that customers will struggle to remember.

A very good tip for you CEF.
You wont have to charge vat for your services for quite a while. Your quotes should reflect this and be honest about the situation with clients. It's the norm in IT for sole traders & new businesses to share the spoils 50/50. It helps you at first with income and gives you extra leverage when going into the market with your quotations.

Funnily enough, I'm having a bit of dispute via e-mail right now with my Business advisor regarding this very issue.
I want to sell time, he wants me to sell jobs!!!
My head is ready to explode!!!!!

I use a lot of contact workers and I've slowly started to provide them thro' my company to clients at their insistence. Companies hate using recruitment consultancies and there's money to be made from supplying the right people to the right companies.
What IT recruitment companies know about IT is astoundingly poor and they are often taken in by cv's they are not in a position to question and then provide totally inadequate contractors to business who then have to terminate and suffer costs.
