6 Things i learnt... After beating United

Counter attack

Despite the attack being almost the same as under Redknapp, the 4-2-3-1 formation means Bale and Lennon go further up the pitch and during counter attacks, the team is set up more aggressively. This was highlighted by Gary Neville on Monday night, where he analysed the runs of Lennon, Bale and Defoe which tore Evans and Ferdinand apart.

Parker who?

The Englishman has been out injured since the end of last season but his presence in away games appears to be small. With Villas-Boas obviously attacking from the start, the defensive minded player would only be satisfactory when holding a lead, with the midfielder still yet to score a goal in a Tottenham star.

Come On You Caulker!

The young defender proved himself on Saturday on a big stage, showing his strength and bright future. Playing against a superior striker-force of Rooney, Van Persie, Kagawa and Welbeck, the former Swansea loanee was tested to the limit. The last time Tottenham won at Old Trafford before Saturday Caulker wasn’t even born yet!

Defoe’s a good’un!

Normally a striker is only monitored by goals, but the progress Jermain has made since AVB has taken over has been incredible. Last season, Defoe was greedy and wanted his own goals, even though he still is, his power on Saturday against a gigantic Ferdinand shows how Defoe can hold off the defender and his ball to Bale instead of making the run around the defender shows how the 29 year old has transformed dramatically to a team player.

Dempsey or Rafa?

The American was obviously purchased as a replacement for Van der Vaart, and although it could be said this is a disappointment to see him leave, Dempsey is an outstanding player which Saturday proved.

Not only is he match fit and able to play the full 90 minutes, his positioning is impeccable and has been demonstrated by an incorrectly ruled out goal in the Europa League, and also his first Tottenham goal on Saturday.

He is also one of the most highest scoring midfield players in the Premier League, being involved in at least 20 goals a season.

Player's to return

We still have First eleven players to come back which will improve the team even more, Kaboul, Adebayor, Parker.. Onwards and upwards AVB's Blue and White YIDARMY!!!

Maybe everyone was all over Parker at the start of last season because, oh I don't know, he played well at the start of last season? Just a thought...

number eight, I do actually rate Sandro, but he is young and makes challenges where they don't need to be made at times, but I'm sure he will grow out of it in time.

And I'm not even saying Parker should start, same as the Lloris situation as far as I'm concerned, you wait your chance, and you take it when it comes. Not like we don't have plenty of games to go around at the moment.

I think Parker is average, always have done. Even when he was getting waaanked over at the start of last season by all of our fans. A crap team has someone in midfield who is there for tackling alone - Parker can't pass wind after eating a tin of beans, and takes three touches when one is needed

----

funny you mention this...

you will have to go so so far back in your posting history, but i remember that when we signed him i wrote about what a west ham season ticket holder in my office was telling me about him in the season they finished bottom, where he was hailed as this amazing player who almost single handedly gave them a chance of staying up.

he told me (and i thought he was being ridiculous at the time), that he couldnt stand him, thuoght he was hugely overated, was shocking on the ball, and slowed down every single attack by taking 5 touches when 1 sufficed, and by poor distribution and doing pirouhettes all the time.

while i dont think he is as anywhere near as bad as he was making out, his words did stick with me as i watched him play in the second half of last season, when he was, to be fair, absolute sh111t

Chronic, to be fair he was clearly unfit near the end of the season, he looked dead on his feet, but Harry still picked him of course (what is this 'rotation' concept of which you speak?)

And also, the whole team was cack in the last third of the season, not just Parker.

Tottenham Dog.

very true.

he was shattered. that excuses him not having the same energy as early in the season, it doesnt excuse him not being able to pass a ten yard ball to the full backs feet, or just infront of him.

the lost count of the amount of attacks that lost momentum due to parkers sloppy passing to the fullback behind him etc etc.

sunderland away is a perfect example.

this is how I see Parker VS Sandro in their simplest forms:

Parker
short passing - 8/10
long passing - 6/10
tackling - 9/10
scoring - 2/10
heading - 6/10
leadership - 10/10
TOTAL - 41/60

Sandro
short passing - 6/10
long passing - 6/10
tackling - 8/10
scoring - 1/10
heading - 7/10
leadership - 6/10
TOTAL - 34/60

to give parker 8/10 for short passing whilst giving sandro 6/10 is laughable imo.

8/10? you must have given modric 10/10. who knows what you would give xavi.

parker is about a 5/10 for passing all round. sandro is probably a 6.
