Redknapp Rubishes Leicester Claims

This is good news if it is true.

Phew! That's that then....

... Redknapp to be appointed the new manager of Leicester tomorrow!

But in all seriousness, I think sense has prevailed and our owners have agreed with Redknapp to bury this one or there was never any contact.

Either way, the right end to this rather strange saga!

Phew - a big sigh of relief from me. I'd be more inclined to believe it coming from Redknapp than a dreaded "vote of confidence" from the owners. I tend to think that after the Burton Albion debacle the owners probably got a bit panicky & put out some feelers naively thinking it could be done without leaking out. The 4 wins on the bounce and climb to 2nd has calmed their fears. Let's hope they will now see sense and give the big man their full backing.

The man who seems to have done a good job in this is Mickey Walsh, who has managed to force the issue while still giving everyone a way out. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the owners made a statement tomorrow along the lines of: "There has been no contact with Harry / We're very happy with the way things are progressing under Nigel / We tried to simply ignore these wild rumours but accept on reflection that we may not have handled the situation as well as we might."

The problem is, we don't know how far this went. The most likely explanation to me is that, concerned that they wasted time finding another manager last season, they sounded Redknapp or his agent out about this, at which point his agent spotted an opportunity and leaked something to the press with the intention of further opening the door if Redknapp wanted it. As a result, the club found themselves caught out while Redknapp has been able to say "nothing to do wiv me, guv" when he saw how unpopular Pearson's removal would be.

Unfortunately, I fear the club won't learn its lesson from this - for the simple reason that they were heading for (and who knows, may still be!) exactly the same mistake they made last year: Looking to bring in a new manager at a time of the year that leaves him all but doomed from the start.

What worries me, is that when these things die down, we suddenly suffer a drop in form. You see it happen all the time.
