She might feel safer in talking out now that other folk are doing the same.

You often hear about victims only coming forward after they hear the person is up on charges.

This can sometimes be to do with the fact that the victim somehow feels they are guilty themself, and only when it turns out that the offender does it to other people do they understand they are a victim.
