James McClean has been ruled out of Ireland’s clash with Germany due to an injury picked up over the weekend.
The Sunderland winger picked up a hip injury in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Sunderland despite playing the entire 90 minutes for Martin O’Neill’s side.
A spokesman for the Football Association of Ireland said: "The results of James McClean's scan this morning in Sunderland showed a grade one hip flexor strain which will certainly rule him out for the Germany match and may exclude him for the Faroe Islands.
"McClean will remain at his club to receive treatment."
Meanwhile, Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clarke has been drafted into the squad for the World Cup qualifiers with Germany and the Faroe Islands.
Sean St Ledger and Glenn Whelan are, however, rated as doubtful, and underwent scans this morning.
Jonathan Walters sat out the training session in Malahide, having played in Stoke City's Barclay's Premier League game at Liverpool on Sunday.
Robbie Keane and Aiden McGeady will link up with the squad on Tuesday.

McClean's injury is irrelevant as he's dead to lunatic Trap now, auld 'Crap' doesnt forgive easily and bears grudges for anyone who looks at him crossways so McClean will have to join about a dozen others watching from the sidelines for as long as this geriatric liability is entrusted by Delaney to continue destroying Irish football. Meanwhile obediant no marks like McShambles, Keogh, O'Dea, Green will earn caps that no other other international team would have granted them in a million years. Walt Disneys Robbie Keane will continue to lead us from the front at the expense of by far our best premiership striker in Shane Long. We even know that despite the current centre back crisis John O'Shea who is Sunderland's captain and centre half will continue to be misused at right back where he hasnt played at club level for at least 2 years whilst Fulham's right back Stephen Kelly will be ignored or at best used at centre back by Trap. Likelihood is O'Dear and McShambles will be Trap's men!! Irish football is a bad joke these days and everyone I know is fed up to the teeth of this pathetic embarrassment of a manager continually abusing his nposition and ignoring/ not watching players but we'll have to wait two more years before he's eventually admitted to the nursing home and Irish international football can begin the process of rebuilding the bridges destroyed by this charlatan bull in a china shop!!

..............................................................................
Len and the rest of you here... how old are you seriously? Less than 10 by any chance? Either that or you all have an extremely fkn short memories...
Do you not remember how much worse things were for us under Kerr and then Staunton only 4 years ago?
Yes we get the point! Trap's selections are extremely frustrating, but ffs lets put things into perspective here!
We had six years of absolute sheit from 2002- 2008 before Trap took over and EVERYBODY here seems to conveniently forget how fkn dreadful that period was!
No tournament football
Never even qualified for the playoffs (not even close!)
Record low world ranking (lower than NI at one point)
Thrashings at the hands of Cyprus, and Switzerland (you thought losing to Spain and Italy was bad!)
.... and all this with a first team that included Robbie and Duffer at their peak, a veteran Roy Keane, the great Stephen Ireland, Champions League winner Steve Finnan... and to top it all off we had the mighty Andy Reid at centre mid!!!
A much better side than any of Trappatoni's teams right?... Well the RESULTS prove otherwise i'm afraid!

Argue all you like but Trap's RESULTS in qualifying where it matters, are far superior to anything we had to endure in the previous decade.
Yeah... sure the grass always looks greener on the otherside and we'd all like to see good attacking football at the Aviva, but right now look at Scotland and Wales, both have arguably stronger starting XIs than we do with some genuine Champions League class players, yet they keep fkng up in qualifying every time!
Can't even get close to a playoff place, let alone qualify for a major tournament like we did!

After ranting about trap since he took over, I have no energy left to respond to the fool above.

Ok, why don't you instead respond to the facts that I posted about the previous managerial regimes 2002-2008, where we played attractive football, the popular fans' team selections were made, but we never even came close to qualifying for a tournament?
May be you'd be happier if we played like Wales do now? They play good attacking football right?

CBB: Good points, well made.

CBB ive never ever had a go at trap for the way the team plays football. My problem with him is his treatment of our players and his awful team selections. Glen Whelan should never had more more than 1 or 2 caps for us. Instead he is almost at 50 and is considered an important player. McShane has nearly 30. Im not even going to get into it as I would be here all day but you know yourself how awful trap has been and if it was an Irish manager you would be calling for his head and you know it.

But they're one and the same, he picks the players who he feels suit his system and follow his instructions best.

Anyway, no need to worry about this game, as far as I can see the last time Germany lost a qualifying match was 17/10/07 and the last time they drew was the 14/10/09 so clearly they don't like October!!!
3 or 4 nil to Ireland seems reasonable.
