Beware the baby faced assassin

Let's just consider this for a second shall we?

Let's just imagine a club, a club recently relegated after a long stint amongst the top echelons of the country's league in which the club resides.
A succession of disappointing managerial appointments have seen the club's fortunes diminish and after all the good will in the world from the fans and the executives the latest managerial encumbant is reluctantly fired.

The fans are rightly now left wondering who is next to guide thier once glorious high flying club? There are the usual names thrown into the frame( but then they're the usual names due to the fact that they're in and out of jobs every half season). There are new names too, foreigners that are doing well in foriegn leagues. One of these used to play in a a very succesful side and is showing burgeoning talent as a manager in his short career in his home country. Is he the man to take the recently relegated clyb back to the promised land?

What I'm getting at is this, if you had not one iota of knowledge about who OGS is would you be happy that the chairman brought in an unproven foriegn manager with no track record in this league when said chairman has already said that not getting promotion is failure this season? I wouldn't.

We wanted Coyle and look at what happened, be careful what you wish for. Personally, I want Hope Powell in the job.

Clegg - yes it's a risk. But so is appointing any new manager, at every level of football.

Hierro, Campo, OGS, Di Canio are popular choices on various forums. They all fall into the risky category.

Curbishley, McCarthy, McLeish, etc, are all less risky but hardly get the pulse racing.

We have to also be realistic, thus removing the likes of Redknapp, Benitez, Bilic out of the equation.

The Brave take risks!!!!!!!

Nice bloke, poor manager.

To be honest, Gartside kept him a year longer than he should have so he's done very well out of us but we are not a charity or a job club.

I wish him the best but I think a Scottish job will be his lot.

I'm sure Ferguson mentored his son too. He turned out to be a very average lower league manager. I'm afraid that counts for nothing in my eyes.

LH - you have stated your prob with ex-Man Utd players being in the frame.

Do you not think that is affecting your judgement here??

DF didn't win any titles anywhere, so OSG's titles already put him way ahead.

My missus is a PNE fan of 40 years. I'll go with what she has told me regarding their 90's tie up with Man Utd.

No it's not affecting my judgement, Darren Ferguson is a very average manager by any measure, so how can it be the case that Ferguson senior's influence makes a big difference?

You're suggesting the influence of Ferguson on Solksjaer is a significant factor, I'm saying there's evidence it isn't. Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Brian Kidd, all spent years as Ferguson's captain or number two and they are failed managers too.

I can't claim that all ex-Man U managers are as poor as Ferguson Jr - and I'm not suggesting that. I'd just prefer not to have one at our club.

There's a hell of a lot of former Ferguson players made it into management but I'm struggling to name a really successful one... Saying that Bruce, Ince, Hughes and the like are routinely moving amongst clubs with little "Longterm" success.

Do they all play the same way, system etc?? Very different people. Would the United connection put me off? No not really... I'd have Rooney playing for us so why not someone managing..

I'm actually enjoying listening to Gary Nevile on Sky...

BUT..... For some it would be a problem... And the last thing we need is a prejudging 'Megson Style' scenario again...

So this time, the pick is important... Real important...!

MT Gary Nevile is clued up.
