Lying awake bored last night and was thinking about my time travelling in 2008. It just came in to my mind that whilst I was in Brisbane, I found somewhere to watch the United-Lyon Champions League game. Bearing in mind that it kicked off at 5:45 am local time, looking back, I can't believe I thought I''d find somewhere. In the end, despite being laughed at by various Aussies, I found a row of outdoor cafe things, one showing Milan-Arsenal (I think) and another showing United.
I had various other problems watching United (was away from February 2nd-July) throughout the trip and was wondering if anyone else has suffered similar problems whilst travelling/on holiday or had any stories of having to go out of their way to watch their side.

VC, do you not find it worrying just about everyone on the site knew what would happen but fergie didn't?
................
I have found it worrying for the last three years.
I did an article on 'the old guard' about two and a half years ago, under my old name of Rooneysrage on the BBC 606.
Ahhh you are Rooneys Rage, explains a lot.

Never hid that one, it is pretty much common knowledge.

Sydney was easy, bars open all night for games. Watched both 2008 semi's in a Liverpool bar and took pleasure in goading them when Riise scored that last minute own goal against Chelsea.
Looking for a game in Brisbane was probably hard as it was my second day in the country so didn't really know whats what.
I remember looking for somewhere to watch the Liverpool game (3-0 Mascherano red) in Hervey Bay. Sunday night so all the bars were shutting at 11 but bumped into a load of Salford reds and we raised $200 between us and other United fans to keep a pub open for the match! He gave us a drink each and then asked for money for them but was duly told where to go!

I watched that very game you mention (United vs Lyon 2008) in an Irish bar in downtown Manhattan.
The yankee commentator kept referring to Lyon as the 'The French Lions'
Very annoying.

I watched the United City derby about 4 years ago in the beer garden of the night market in Bangkok. The big screen was behind a stage on which some very scantily clad Thai girls (they were girls, honest !) were dancing. It was hard to concentrate on the game.

Which derby? I watched the 50th Munich anniversary match in Phi-Phi at the Reggae Bar if you've been? Found Thailand the easiest to watch footy. Everywhere is near enough open 24/7, didn't miss a game in the month I was there.
Was at some club with a live band in Pattaya, front row, yet I was fixed on a screen across the bar trying to watch the Spurs-Chelsea Carling Cup final! The lead singer kept giving me dodgy looks for ignoring her band (they were shiiiiiiiteeee)

i cant remember which but we were away and we won, I think 1-0 with a Rooney goal, but I was distracted !!
I have been to loads of Reggae bars in Thailand but not been to Phi Phi.
But Thailand is a good place to watch games even with the time difference.

Have you ever tried to find anywhere to watch a game in Central Helmand - just don't bother!
