FUNROBS MENTAL BET OF THE DAY
A grand on Elvis Presley turning up to the match tonight in a double with Lord Lucan sat behind him. He then decided to make it a treble on them both turning up at the game riding Shergar.

What's patronising about that statement?

Rooney has been your stand-out player ever since you sold Ronaldo and his marketing value to the club must be immense as I seem to see his pug-like face on products where ever I go in the world.

What I read was your interpretation of the Rooney situation and I replied with a synopsis of what I believe to be true. If you believe every statement to be issued by United to be 100% truthful then that's your perogative, I sure as hell don't believe eveything City say to their fans or the media and our PR machine is nowhere near as slick or well connected as yours.

I've lost count of how many times I've explained the Rooney contract situation to idiots on here. Might as well just copy and save the explanation for future reference.

Soz Captain, I forgot you sit in during contract negotiations and David Gill uses you as a consultant.

Ok Boris

Serious question

If Rooney held the club to ransom as you believe, why did United go public when they were going to give in to his demands 24 hours later anyway?

PR disaster for both Rooney and United that could have been avoided without any trouble whatsoever.

You tell me the sense in the press conference to give in to his demands a few hours later anyway. You really believe Sir Alex is that stupid?

I know the Sun think it (Well they don't think it but why would that stop them. I just can;t believe you would think it.

You get some juvenile thick prats on here who would believe it just because it suits them but there is no way in hell you are thick. Personally you come across as one of the most intelligent on here, despite being one of the most bitter too

So, why the deliberate PR disaster excercise? United literally had nothing to gain but humiliating Rooney and humiliating the club with an embarassing climbdown

The only reason I have interest in the Rooney situation is because City were dragged into it either by Paul Stretford (10% chance) or the media (90% chance). One thing's for sure, City had no interest in Rooney and were more likely to put in an £80m bid for Leon Best.

What is certain is Rooney issued a statement claiming he was unhappy at United, contract negotiations were then fast-tracked and a couple of days later everyone seemed happy. If United didn't capitulate in some way then why was the new contract rushed through when there was still a substantial amount of time left on the existing one?

Boris

Agree about the City interest. More media bollox.

Regarding the contract, it was happening before he had a brain fart.

I accept Sir Alex, like any other manager, can bend the truth a little when it suits but in this case, it certainly did not suit. You can tell from his body language alone that Sir Alex was at a loss to why he wanted out and quite clearly states money had not even been discussed and surely you must realise United had nothing to gain but looking stupid for going public to then give in

The fact it all happened so quickly surely suggests it wasn't fasttracked as you say, maybe, just maybe, he did actualy sign the contract that was already on the table

Or is that too farfetched and the truth is United did deliberately enter into a PR disaster for both the player and the club
