I'm assuming you are talking about the Origin/Australian article TBF....
What has made origin so successful is the rivalry between NSW & Q'land. What I don't like about the idea of foreign players participating and then representing their own country of birth is as above (rivalry) and it lessons the opportunity for young Aussies attempting to break into the international scene.
It also leaves the Aussie selectors with less players to choose from......for instance what if both NSW & Q'land had foreign halves...then the selectors don't get to see if a club No. 7 has got the ability to rise to that level where origin is an excellent breeding arena.
If it's not broken, don't fix it.
