Griffin training with Donny - Dean Saunders

Hound - yes it was to Derby he went. He played in the same team at Bradford alongside Bobby Ham who was also dangerous and could score lots of goals.

Griffin signs on non contract terms, available for tomorrow night. Good to be right for once.

Alex, i dont disagree with any of what you have written above and i guessed in advance that you would quote the Alex Ferguson scenario because everyone does when justifying a sacking or otherwise.
All i was saying is that statistics can be used to the providers advantage to prove or disprove whatever you want to.
It depends on how you use the information.
Our attendance on Saturday was the fourth highest in League One.
That sounds quite good doesnt it but in reality the gate was only 6500 or so.

Hound,
When a person bends the stats to get the result they want is wasting their time and effort but when accurate stats are used and interpreted correctly it becomes a useful tool. Clearly it is a difficult to get it right all the time but I can tell you Sean uses them at Forest and Deano quite often quotes them.

To prove my point - Deano often quotes stats such as "we had enough chances to win three games" to try to show that we had played well when actually we had nothing of the kind.
Fifty percent of his claims are false.
But then again, fifty percent of his claims are correct.
See what i mean?

I still think you miss the point Hound!
"If you put rubbish in you get rubbish out" there is no secret in that and I am not willing to say that Deano hasn't got a clue when it comes to stats.
A key part of stats is to know how to interpret them and that takes a fair degree of intelligence.
I make it sound like I have great knowledge of stats, clearly I do not but I know a man that does.
Stats are in affect just a tool which if used correctly can be very effective and as Fuzzy says “ Deano's comments on stats are at best questionable.” or something like that.

Alex, i am not missing the point at all.
I clearly do understand that anyone can use atats to their advantage.
You say that SoD used stats before games.
If that is the case i have to question why he didnt calculate how many times he lost points, either from a drawing to losing position or from a winning to drawing position, by bringing on defenders in the last ten minutes and inviting teams on to us.
We all held our breath and just knew what was going to happen.
One up or drawing, ten minutes to go, bring on an extra defender and take a forward off, goal conceded in the last couple of minutes.
Now that is a stat that cant be denied, i am amazed that he didnt stop doing it.
If i could see that it happened week after week then i am amazed that Sod couldnt see likewise.
All managers have their good and bad points and Deano is no exception.
I was fully behind SoD when he was our manager so dont come back and say that i am a Sod hater but this was a trait of his that i could never understand.
Deano has his faults of course, which manager doesnt?
The current team isnt as blessed with as much all round skill as the previous one of course.
It cant be because the current budget wont allow us to bring in the same quality of player as before but for certain the current regime knows how to hang on at the end of a game.
I am sure your son is very good at what he does and i wouldnt question his abilities.
People can commision staistics then juggle them around to suit their cause, that is all i was trying to say earlier.

Hound,
I did not say
“Sean used stats before games at Donny”
I said
“Sean uses stats at Forest”
I have no idea if Sean used stats at Donny.
I admit that Sean did move in mysterious ways but I still very much enjoyed the football we played and for me it was a price we had to pay because of the restrictions Sean had placed upon him at Donny. Those restrictions have now been removed at Forest and we will see the quality of the man this season, with an improvement next season, that’s if he doesn't get the sack before he achieves it.
As NY pointed out, Forest supporters were shouting for Sean's head a few weeks ago but not a bad comment of him having beaten the top of the league last week, strange that!
A few weeks ago there was one of our supporters demanding Deano's head on 606 and I was quick to rubbish that comment, that’s football folks.
I doubt very much I could change that culture of football but I do enjoy debating the different opinions.
I have this theory that it is almost impossible to be totally wrong all the time and that I must get something right some of the time but that’s for others to decide in a debate.
Have a nice day Hound.

You too have a good day.
I do think that we have similar thoughts on much of what goes on on here.
As for SoD's methods at Donny, i reckon that if he uses stats at Forest then he will have done the same with us. It will be his way.
None of us are right or wrong all of the time, it isnt possible, but i too enjoy chatting about things on here.
Some of what is said isnt liked by others but hey, thats life.
