Liverpool finally earned their first home league win of the season against Reading on Saturday afternoon.
It was a narrow margin of victory for the Reds and it should have been a much wider margin as a host of chances went begging, with Luis Suarez being the main man wasteful in front of goal.
Reading made a decent start to the game but it was not long before Liverpool settled and took full control of the match. Their goal came on 29 minutes when Suarez lifted the ball over the Reading defence for Raheem Sterling to slot into the bottom left corner of the net.
Nuri Sahin should have done better when he blazed over the bar, and moments later a lapse of concentration saw him miss the ball. Suarez also had chances to add to Liverpool's lead, but he blazed his shots high and wide throughout the afternoon.
At the other end, Reading threatened when they went forward but Reds keeper Brad Jones, in for the injured Pepe Reina, did not have very much to do during the match and he looked assured whenever he had to collect the ball.
The win lifts Liverpool to 11th place and within five points from fourth spot, although the current occupiers of that spot, Everton, have a game in hand.
