Sturridge's Big Chance?

If I'm not mistaken, Torres cannot appeal his red, as it resulted from two yellows; this means Sturridge is starting next game. Could be Dan's chance to establish himself, and to demonstrate that he should not be sold in the transfer window. It also gives RDM an excuse not to play Torres without criticism that the £50M striker is being wasted on the bench, that it will damage Torres' confidence, etc. Could be a blessing in disguise?

In the extreme case, if Sturridge does exceptionally well in the lone striker role, it will highlight the premise that Torres has been underperforming, and perhaps pave the way for a Falcao transfer during the window...

Forces our hand for Azpilicueta as well.

Its only a one game ban tho. And he'll only miss the league cup tie.

I think Sturridge would have started Wednesday anyway so doesn't make a difference.

Sure, he could be useful to us now, but if we recall him, it might be a bad move in the long-term, as it would stunt his development.

Also, managers would become a bit more reluctant to take our players on loan and make them an integral part of their team if there is a chance we'd take the player away at a whim.

Lukaku was rubbish today apparently.

Sturridge would have started midweek anyhow

Sturridge should start all our games anyway.

Fair enough. Anyway, since it's against Manu again (although I'm sure they won't put out the same team), it'll be more straightforward to compare Torres' and Sturridges' performances head to head. Looking forward to Dan showing what he can do.

One match ban for Ivanovic and Torres(misses carling cup). Which they weren't going to start/feature in anyway.
