Swiss Tournament Review & Awards

So the Switzerland tournament has come to an end! What tournament it has been and to make it even better, history was made as SpursBoy became the first person to retain the tournament title.

So starting with Group A and if you had read my preview you would know I tipped SpursBoy to romp this group and romp it he did. Seeing off plucky newcomer GTA 1 – 0 thrashing both Choice and Kanga 5 – 0 and 3 – 0 respectively he was making very light work of the group, till he met Ludy. Storming into a 2 – 0 lead Ludy could have actually been the first player to have ever beaten him in normal time, albeit in true SpursBoy style he won the game 3 – 2 in the end, progressing as group winner.

So as predicted the second spot was wide open. Newcomer GTA was recording narrow losses against Kanga and Ludy whilst picking up a narrow 1 – 0 against ChoiceCity, this was not enough and saw him finish last in the group, but not disgraced at all! He could achieve something with a better team. So Ludy who I predicted to reach the semis with what was a strong Basle team, flopped badly. Only scraping a draw against Kanga (though he does normally struggle against him) he was put to the sword by ChoiceCity all but ending his hopes, ChoiceCity on the other hand was flying! He dispatched Kanga 4 – 1 to secure second spot, semi-final time for the captain.

On to Group B and the stronger group of the two, again saw a tournament favourite make light work of it. Kent who was tipped to win the entire thing got off to a cracking 2 – 1 win against TBK, hammered Tyke 4 – 0 got one over fierce rival Comu 1 – 0 before a dour 0 – 0 with defensive specialist and newcomer Oscar 0 – 0, Kent was on fire!

For the rest if the group it was closely fought newcomers Oscar and TBK saw out a 1 – 1 draw with Chelsea pride at stake there. It wouldn’t get any better for TBK as he went on to lose the rest of his group game’s finishing rock bottom whilst Oscar nabbed a victory against Tyke overall securing a respectable five points. With Comu beating TBK and Oscar and Tyke beating Comu himself and TBK second spot went on to goal difference with Comu progressing with a plus 1 to Tyke’s minus 1, something tells me Kent regrets sticking as many passed as he did against me in that 4 – 0 thrashing!

So on to the semi-finals and the first one was a repeat of last tournament’s final, Comu v SpursBoy. Comu was talking of revenge against SpursBoy pre-tournament and with SpursBoy having the worst team in the tournament Comu had his best chance yet! However, SpursBoy raced into a 2 – 0 lead and it was all going wrong for Comu, he showed some spirit and got it back to 2 – 2, but SpursBoy came through to win the day yet another final awaits.

The second final consisted of shock semi-finalist ChoiceCity and group B destroyer Kent. The general feel was the people rooting for the loveable ChoiceCity, but Kent wasn’t having any of it storming into a 2 – 0 lead to crush the spirit of ChoiceCity. ChoiceCity got one back through a corner, but Kent scored against to secure that final spot against SpursBoy.

So it was the final many predicted SpursBoy v Kent a win for SpursBoy would see him become the first to retain the tournament title and he did. Managing to sneak a goal against Kent before stifling his superior young Boys team and then nicking another SpursBoy won the tournament and immortality beckons. The guy has never lost a game in normal time over three tournaments and won it with the joint-worse team in the game, what a machine! Can anybody stop him?
