Team for Watford

I know I'm being a bit early, but I hate discussing us losing

Do you think Pearson will drop the poor performers, or do you think he'll give them a second chance, taking into account their outstanding performances in recent weeks? Will we see Danns?

I cant see Pearson being a knee-jerk type of manager so I think we will have a similar team, but maybe giving James or possibly even Danns a chance ahead of DD.

Not sure we can blame Waghorn for the Palace game...

I think we've only got 20 in the squad (based on Saturdays match programme) so, with St Ledger still injured and De Laet serving a one match ban, Danns is in the match day squad for Watford.

If i was Nigel (no you cry) i would keep the same team and go out a prove it was a one off and although i can't believe i am saying this even Dyer!

I actually think it was a mistake taking off Dyer, although I can understand why we did it, I probably would have opted to sacrifice Vardy for an additional midfielder in James.

Anyway, I agree about sticking with roughly the same side, barring any brilliant performances in training this week. So Moore in for De Laet...possibly Marshall in for Knockaert, but everything else the same for me. Taft will probably come in on the bench.

Ps - Tom Hopper has bagged 3 in 9 for Bury so far...well done young lad!

Changes aren’t really necessary unless the poor form of some (most notably Drinkwater) was down to injury, illness or fatigue and not just a one off poor game. This is still the side that got us 5 wins on the bounce. NP would have to see something pretty special in training - especially for someone like Danns to get near the starting line up.

Tinkering should be minor. Moore for De-Laet if the latter is suspended and, for me personally, Marshall for Dyer. Harsh on Dyer as he’s played quite well this season, but ultimately that change will happen as Ben is just a better player and provides more of a goal threat.

Vardy is probably the best of a mediocre bunch as the second striker, but I’d perhaps like to see Schlupp or Futacs given a go as first change if things aren’t going well.

I can see why we played 4-4-2 against Palace as they have some talent out wide. (Not that it helped an awful lot!) However, one change I'd be looking to make is to get back to a 4-2-3-1 as soon as possible. In that, I'd keep the personnel very similar.

I suppose the good news against Palace is that James got a run out and looked quite decent, reminding Drinkwater and King to stay on their toes because there's strong competition close behind them.

And yes, I'd also bring in Taft - I'd always want a defender available in a 7-man bench.

keep the faith i dont recall blaming waghorn for the palace game...

i dont think the starting team will change as i previously said but IMO i would to see futacs come on instead of waggy. I dont see what he has offered when he has come on. i wouldnt see it as a knee jerk reaction either just giving someone else a go where others are failing.

Pearson must see something in waghorn over futacs. i see it as waghorn noting making the most of coming off the bench, not just in terms of goals but getting into a good position regularly throughout what time he does get on the pitch.

OK, guess I misread it.

I had took as if you felt Waghorn had been coming off the bench in the last 3 or 4 games, which he hasn't as he's started two (nowhere near 'woeful' overall in either IMO) and didn't get any pitch time in the other couple.

In terms of Waghorn I'd agree that he's not been really bad this season. Other players have average or poor games and aren't singled out.

The reason for this, however, is that many of us cannot remember the last game that Waghorn played where he was any good. His last minute goal against Bristol City the season before last comes to mind - but that's it really.
