Why we support Rangers FC

What is the reason for following Rangers folks?

The history, tradition, bonds between fans, family ties, where you are born and bred?Or simply the standard of football for decades, love of the Blue jersey and Ibrox and going to games with your mates?
For some it may be linked to identity.pride in the Protestant and Ulster Scots and British culture at the club. This may be frowned upon by some, but it is vital to many, myself included.Part of being a Liverpool fan is the scouse identity and if you take that away or dilute that link, you lose the heartbeat of the club.
Migration between Ulster and Scotland has helped to shape Rangers, and times will change, but some things remain constant.
Last but not least, pride in the players and staff at Rangers, knowing they will try their best for the club and fans, whatever challenge is put in front of them.

I was born in Glasgow, Rangers were the first "real" football team I saw (v Aberdeen) and I have been a fan ever since.
I remember my Grandfather saying at one time during some sectarian trouble in the 60's....."I wouldn't care what religion, creed or colour a player was.....if they could win us the European Cup I'd be over the moon. They could sign a team full of little green Martians if they could do the job"....and he was a staunch Bluenose from the day he was born. A player's religion meant nothing to him or any of my uncles and it doesn't to me.

On the other hand, if I had been born in Aberdeen or Dundee or Perth, I have no doubt I would be following one of those teams......if more people had done that over the past 100 years in Scotland, the game wouldn't be in the state it is now.

Np dos

You've got your views mate and they should be respected. The same should go for his though... Our club isn't shy when it comes to promoting the whole British link, so if fans want to embrace it then they should be able to do so without being told to stick it where the son doesn't shine...

Dos,I was asking people why they support Rangers and you focused upon one part of my article, almost in a celtic minded fashion, and ignored or choose to dismiss several reasons for following the Gers.
Fair enough, you do not hold religous beliefs or share my political or cultural identity, but do not tell me where to stick my views as that makes you as nasty and bigotted as those you claim to dislike.
Read the comments from Blacksod, who distorts what I said for his own agenda, claiming I want to sing about "bad catholic's".Unlike some hypocrites and cowards,I am prepared to tell it as I see it and feel it,but that does make me a bigot or bad person.
Billions of people have strong religous, political and cultural viewpoints and to say such traditions are not part of Rangers and Celtic history is to ignore the elephant in the room Dos.
You hold your own pretty strong opinions, and you have every right to do so,and I will follow my path and my Rangers.

Dos,I have read your post again and would wish to question your views.
You say as a scot you do not want to celebrate Britain's colonial past, but as a scot you are part of it,and where did I mention celebrating this. You suggest you are proud to be a scot, but attack me for my Ulster Scots and British/loyalist identity. How does that work,ok to be a proud scot, but bad to be an Ulsterman?Very odd.
You arrogantly refer to the fairy story over here regarding the conflict.Read your history books Dos as you will find Scotland is part of what you call a fairy story. Are you some sort of revisionist,re-writing the past?
Finally, before you insult my views again, take a look around you at a Rangers game, read about the history of Rangers and migration between Scotland and Ulster.I think you will find a huge number of Bears share my views.
That is not to say Rangers are not a broad church, but less of the celtic type put downs Dos.
