Rovers v Crewe Alexandra

Just in case Fuzzy is unable to do his usual excellent preview, here goes.

Following closely on Saturday's FA Cup win, Rovers are back in League action tonight against Crewe, who have this week taken Dalle Valle on loan from Fulham. Crewe have a few injury problems including influential strikers Max Clayton and Ajay Leitch-Smith, along with teenage winger Ryan Colclough. Manager Dean Saunders is looking forward to renewing aquaintances with his former Wrexham player Pogba.

Rovers, lying fifth in the table have won their last three League games and will have Paul Quinn and Shelton Martis available again for selection, possibly along with David Cotterill and/or Kyle Bennett who will both have fitness tests before the game.

Rovers have met Crewe twice at the Keepmoat, the first, two months after the Stadium opened in a second leg Semi-final for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy which Rovers won, and went on to win the final in Cardiff.

The night a started with a number of Rovers players as well as Sean O'Driscoll, laid low with a virus. Level at 3-3 from the first leg, Crewe jumped into a 2-0 lead after 36 minutes. Paul Heffernan pulled a goal back just after the hour and with seven minutes left were awarded a penalty.

Heffernan stepped up to take the penalty and scored, but referee Kettle, blew for it to be retaken, Heffs kept his cool and slotted in the "second" penalty, to tie the match at 5-5. With the clock running down, Jason Price found himself in the right place at the right time to prod home the winner.

The second game was the following year when another Paul Heffernan goal and an own goal from Dan Woodards earned Rovers a 2-0 win. A repeat of either score would do tonight.

Referee Scott Duncan. Scott referees on both sides of the border and in 12 games this season in England has booked 25 and sent off one player. This will be his first game in charge of either side.
