wilshere

just to clarify: this has nothing to do with his recent games, he is still getting back in to the groove.

My question is, do you think wilshere will get back his top ability?
i know he hadn't reached the mark yet before his injury but he was well on his way to do so.
i'm just wanting to see views of others out there because there are so many cases of players that never get back that extra edge (that extra edge in their pace, quick thinking, confidence, awareness\vision, finishing or tactical ability) they had when they comeback from such a long time out with a severe injury.

an example would be ronaldo, for those of you who remember before his ligament damage ronaldo was the best thing since maradona and was well on his way to be amongst the top 4 or 3 of all time, although he achieved a lot after, he lost that cutting edge in pace and his lean physique and it was to some extent noticeable.
other examples i can think of that are slightly more severe are eduardo who never really recovered and ramsey.... if there are any other examples you can think of let me know.

Larsson came back after 9 months out and was better

Larsson had Arsenal D.N.A.

Torres, Owen and maybe even Ramsey are examples of players that never quite got back to how they were before their various injuries.

Good example in Ronaldo though.

Who knows? He could come back amazing, could slump. He hasn't looked awful the past few games though. Not great, but not awful

Hard to tell to be honest. Give him till Jan, then we'll see, altho ideally he'll require a whole season to be back to best.

But its almost always knee injuries which fock a player up afterwards. While Jack did have a knee problem, it was through a set back, right? I don't think a fracture in ankle should be bad in long term.

Could well do if his body holds out. Physically being out the length he was means getting back to a his previous level (which was that of a top class player) is not going to happen overnight, not by any stretch of the imagination.

In two and a bit (competetive) games he's shown he still has that drive, range of passing and intelligence that made him a class act.

Last night in the 2nd half he dropped physically, it was very noticable. Worth baring in mind Schalke (like all decent Bundesliga teams) are as energetic, physical and fit opponents as you're likely to face...

Wenger needs to not burden the lad too much and playing him perpetually will almost certainly result in him either getting injured again or at the very least burning out and doing neither the team or the player any favours.

Him being banned for the next league game, under the circumstances is no bad thing.

so far wilshere has arguably been our best midfielder, even after more than a year out

if all goes according to plans, he should get back to his very best by jan/feb & hopefully surpass that by the end of this season
