It was interesting watching Tottingham on the telly last night - and the performance of Tom Carroll in particular - the pundits were absolutely raving about him because of a couple of excellent passes.
He is undoubtedly a very skilled player yet he struggled quite badly for us last season in the hurly-burly of the Championship - the pace of the game seemed to be too much for him. The more sedate pace of European football seemed to be more to his style because he had the time to put his foot on the ball.
Will is currently learning to produce cultured performances in the 100 mph Championship - and there are others who are doing the same.
Just imagine this England midfield in 3 years time...

"Let’s try and not be too hasty in deciding where he'll end up! If we want to be back in the top flight we need to hang on to him! "
Wise words indeed.
Old uns like me remember the late 60's when we stormed through to surprise the football world - and the rumours that kept appearing in the papers about how team x were going to offer huge amounts to prise our stars away.
The one that had me a bit worried was the 'fact' (Daily Mirror variety, albeit) that Liverpool were poised to offer £450,000 for Hector, O'Hare and McFarland as a job lot - an unheard-of amount of dosh at the time. Nothing happened and the rest is history.

OOE is right. We need to hang on to Hughes. Also, one or two years more under Nigel's guidance would be great for Will. Feet on the ground and playing the kind of football we are currently playing would set a brilliant foundation for the best young talent I've seen - maybe ever?
I hope GSE see things this way rather than as a gold nugget thay can sell as soon as possible. And as for those optimists who think GSE would turnover any windfall to Nigel for buying other players - forget it - it won't happen!
I wish Will congratulations and the very best for a great outcome. Maybe DCFC could move to the PL with Will still a DC player. Get his contract sorted out asap. And that's Derby's weak point. Think of how many contract negotiations we have screwed up.

OOE...I saw Carroll's first game at Barnsley. 1st half he was like a kid lost...2nd half he ran the game. I still think hes a talented player and i would have him back here. He looked very nervous playing at Pride Park but Will Hughes has looked anything but nervous.

According to DET he will become one of the youngest ever to represent England U21 if he gets any match time.
"England take on Northern Ireland in a friendly at Blackpool's Bloomfield Road on Tuesday (7.30pm) and 17-year-old midfielder Hughes could become one of the youngest-ever players to represent them at under-21 level.
Arsenal's Theo Walcott is the youngest at 17 years and 152 days.
The record was previously held by Manchester United's Lee Sharpe, who was 17 years and 256 days old when he played against Greece in 1989.
Hughes will be 17 and 220 days when England face Northern Ireland."

"He just looks so mature on the pitch - whereas Giles Barnes shouted "Whee" when he went past a full-back..."
Thanks for starting my Saturday with a laugh, Eddie!
