"Grand Theft Auto 5 will feature three protagonists, it has been revealed.

The game is detailed in December's issue of Game Informer.

The magazine's cover features an image of Grand Theft Auto 5's three playable characters.

The 18-page Grand Theft Auto 5 preview will "introduce the three main protagonists, discuss the groundbreaking way you use them, and explore the reimagined Los Santos - the biggest open world Rockstar has created to date".

The three protagonists, named Trevor, Franklin and Michael from left to right in the cover image, will each have their own personality, skill set and social circles to interact with that contribute to the game's overall story. Trevor is a drug addicted career criminal while Franklin is a street hustler and Michael is a retired bank robber.

Players will be able to switch between the three characters at "nearly any time." This includes during missions, which will put an emphasis on teamwork heists where the characters will have to work together and players can switch depending on which roles they want to perform.
Rockstar says that the city of Los Santos and its surrounding area is larger than the maps it created for Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto 4 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas combined. Areas to explore around the city include a large forest wilderness, a military base and even the ocean floor.

The randomized dynamic missions from Red Dead Redemption will make a return, populating the game with hitchhikers, muggers, and dead body mysteries among other events.

The city will also offer a variety of vehicles players can use, including bicycles, dirt bikes, ATVs, helicopters, planes and jet skis. There will also be new side mission mini-games, including yoga, triathlons, tennis, and golf.

The game will be based on the same world as Grand Theft Auto 4. This means players may encounter character cameos from that game and its expansions, but should not expect to see returning characters from last generation's Grand Theft Auto titles.
The details emerge ahead of a new trailer, which will debut on November 14. The trailer was supposed to arrive earlier this week, but was delayed due to Hurricane Sandy closing Rockstar's New York offices.

Announced last year, Grand Theft Auto 5 will take place in Los Santos, which is loosely based on present-day Southern California. The game supposedly takes place in "the largest and most thriving game world" that Rockstar has ever created.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was recently announced for a spring 2013 release, which Rockstar has now confirmed will be after March.

Pre-order bonuses will reportedly include a miniature slide viewer, which includes five locations from the game."
