The weather is fine and play will start on time for the 3rd day of this Test Match.
It should be a fascinating day. SA dominated day 1, but are still a long way off a match winning position with 255 runs scored for the loss of 2 wickets. You would think they will want to score quickly, but the injury to Duminy may throw a spanner in the works.
Australia will hope to profit from this. They're by no means out of this match. The pitch might be juicy after a day of rain and the bowlers well rested.
There may only be 3 days left, but these sides don't like drawing Test Matches. It's fascinatingly poised and there's no better way to spend a Saturday night/Sunday morning imo!
Predictions for the day? I reckon SA all out 450, Australia 50/3

all the sa bowlers have gone for 4 runs plus. dont see a result unless SA collapse to 100 all out, which is very possible if amla and kallis are out

With only 1 day left it might be hard to get a result. Great batting from Clark and Cowan followed by Hussey.

I knew the Australia bowlers weren't that bad, you know how? I actually watched the play instead of looking at scorecards. The main thing Australia were guilty of was not taking their chances, something SA were definitely guilty of yesterday. Both teams enjoyed some luck when batting, dropped catches, no balls, edges landing safe. At the moment it seems that both batting line ups rely heavily on a few key individuals.
Unless we see a SA collapse tomorrow this is a nailed on draw.

Clarke`s 3rd +200 score of the year
Credit where its due, that is an amazing achievement.

As someone who has watched much of the cricket, I would describe the bowling as a bit...'meh'.
I can't believe how poor Philander has been. He bowled more bad balls yesterday morning than in the entire English summer, and generally looked toothless. Steyn couldn't quite generate the pace and swing on a docile pitch. Siddle was ok at times and Hilfenhouse continues to defy the laws of cricket with his selection.
The omission of Tahir seems strange. Lyon got turn and bounce, but his control was shocking and Clarke couldn't afford to keep him on.
Pattinson has been the bowler of the match by far. He looks threatening in his early spells, and when he came back late in the day the Saffers found it tough to get him away.
Overall I think the pitch is largely to blame. I don't know what the curators are playing at. You would have thought they had learned their lesson after 2010.

An excellent fightback by Australia and shame we had rain on the second day. The 3 days cricket we have have been excellent.
Looks like the match will go to the second test all square and that only keeps things more interesting.

hazsa, the pitch is entirely to blame. These guys speeds were dropping hugely because they had to bowl long spells without any encouragement from the pitch. Philander ended up bowling mid 120kph for heaven's sake. Only Pattinson and Morkel have looked good at all. Thought Pattinson was really fired up, shows that you have to bowl really well to get anything from this pitch at all.
Hilfenhaus has bowled poorly but he bowled completely out of his skin last summer. This is what he is capable of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Q9zBMIdDFc&feature=fvwrel

I wouldn't say it was entirely to blame. I just turned over to the cricket, it must be the 2nd or 3rd ball of the day and Philander bowls a rank long hop wide of off stump. Can you remember him bowling a single ball like that against England? You can slow the scoring rate down and create a bit of pressure on any pitch.
And is that video supposed to prove something Duncan? It was pretty average tbh. He's a swing bowler who took a wicket with swing...

It swung in and nipped away, beauty. He took 27 in 4 matches at 17 that series, granted the Indians were terrible.
I saw bad balls against England, the pitches made the good balls a lot more effective. On this pitch all the good balls were dots. Perhaps the rain tightened everyone up a little too?
