New arrivals...

...Chris Martin from Norwich and Danny Hollands from Charlton have arrived on loan until 5th January.

I think these are two good acquisitions, both experienced with a lot to offer. Martin has scored consistently at a higher level and has averaged about 1 in 4. He's impressed me when I've seen him on TV. Hollands was well thought of at Bournemouth and seems well regarded at Charlton.

Meanwhile it seems Benson could be off to Pompey!

Thoughts?

Swindon fan, i totally agree with you on Rooney, we did get a player who in my opinion shouldnt even be in the football league, but hey ho we have to live with it to January.

redgollom, when were you last at the CG?

Redjed,
I have admit that I haven't been to the CG for a while. Mostly retired, & just can't afford the trip from Leicester. Apart from that, I broke my hip a couple of years ago & find driving a pain, & public transport from here isn't easy.
But, over nearly 50 years, I have put in my stint, both home & away, everywhere from Plymouth to Carlisle & most places in between.
If I still lived in Chippenham, I would have a season ticket as an annual Xmas present from my collective family.

I have only missed two home games at the CG due to my wifes indifferent health and on-going health issues. I am a regular in the Legends Lounge and have been an S/T holder for some years. I regularly chat with Nick Watkins and do know quite a few people in good positions at the club but confess to not seeing Nick much this season, but it was good to that Jeremy Wray was there on Saturday a fact that was missed by many.

Redjed - like Gollum I won't be at the CG tonight for the Brentford game. I only wish I could be.

However like Gollum I've put in my stint over almost 50 years. I've lived away from the town of my birth for over 40 years. However I have seen many games, home and away, in this period. At one point as a season ticket holder I travelled a round journey of 5 hours to see my team. Currently I live near Wrexham so I'm limited to away games that are travellable. I've been to Shrewsbury and Crewe so far this season, the next game I intend to make will be Tranmere away.

I don't feel that not currently being a CG regular makes me any less a supporter than someone who is, or for that matter that my opinions are any less valid. What surely matters is my love for my team and no one who knows me would question that.

I like this board because the contributors are fans who really care. I value the contributions of others. I may not always agree with them but the debate gives me great pleasure.

For those that didn't get to the Brentford game, you were better off at home in the dry and warm.

The only thing that was better than Saturday was marginally the ref, from our point of view most other things were worse. They came and put 5 across the middle and Canioman cannot handle that. His only reply is hoof ball, carp absolute carp. we had a nice periodof play late first half when in fairness most would say we were unlucky not to score. We played it on the ground and our passing and play was not superb but very good. Several corners and lots of pressure play, indeed going in at half time things looked like they may get rosy. Second half started and we went further and further in to the long ball game and guess what , ... they have two tall centre backs. Game over. STFC took our money under false pretences last night, it wasn't what I look forward too. Tactically we came second, BIG TIME
. I wouldn't put it down to the players just the tactics, but of course he says its down to 4 players but wouldn't name them. Shambles.

SF,
Thanks for the comments,
I listened to the commentary, up here in Leicester. Where it was as black as a crow's backside all day.
From my view, the strikers are still the problem. If we don't have a big one when we are playing hoofball, we have no chance. They played 5 across midfield, so why didn't we? He has signed enough of them.
We needed a good striker in the summer, to try & find one now is hopeless. Anyone who is any good won't be loaned off. So he is clutching at straws, panic buying.
We did have the money in the summer, but he spent it wrongly, now we don't have it, & he don't like it.
But, of course, as he has said, he's a good manager.

SF - thanks for that report.

Very disappointing but I tell myself that in your post 3, 6 or 9 points I responded by saying that I'd be happy with 4 (unambitious I know!). In the event we got 6 out of 9 so we're still thereabouts. Home defeats are hard to take and our home record is very poor. We totally lack any consistency this season, good performances (and there have been some) raise hopes and expectations and it's all the harder when a bad result comes along.

Will we bounce back at Notts County? Who knows!
