Liverpool comfortably overcame the threat of Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon at Anfield.

The first half of the match was quite dire, with neither side creating any clear cut chances, and Wigan frustrated Liverpool with an organised defence but their only real chances came from long range efforts.

Liverpool made a very early tactical switch, with Suso being taken off after just 36 minutes to be replaced by Jordan Henderson.

In the second half, it took Liverpool just two minutes to get the first goal. Jean Beausejour played a short backpass which Raheem Sterling nicked off him and played it back for Luis Suarez to smash into the top corner.

The second goal came 11 minutes after this, with Jose Enrique this time the provider as he played a good through ball to Suarez who poked it past Ali Al Habsi into the bottom right corner.

And just seven minutes later the third goal came. Sterling played a one-two with Suarez before hitting a shot at goal which Al Habsi could only parry into the path of Enrique, who tapped it in from close range for his first Liverpool goal, and only his second goal since moving to England.

There was a scary moment for the Reds defence when a ball played into the area came off Arouna Kone and hit the post, but Kone was offside.

Liverpool comfortably saw out the rest of the game and move up to 11th in the league with this victory.

I'd still prefer Enrique at LB than Downing

Henderson must be putting the work in on the training ground, thought he was done with us but BR is warming to him slowly, hope he keeps it up

Of all the players I would love Hendo to come good and maybe this is the start. He did well today.

As good as Enrique played today and last week, Brendan still doesn't fancy him as a full back in my opinion. I reckon his performance at Chelsea gave him a selection headache he wasn't expecting. He's shoehorned him into the team as a LM and he has produced another good display.

Credit to Enrique for stepping up cos I thought he was on his way out. It'll be interesting how this develops cos Wisdomand Johnson seem to be 1st choice full backs.

Will Enrique remain at left mid? Quite ironic that lots of people have been calling for Johnson on the wing for years and now he is covering left back whilst Enrique pushes forward.

Hey, will Enrique play LM next week? Might draft him into my team.

Then we have martin kelly who will want a place

I don't think Wisdom is first choice at all. I think whilst Enrique was in bad form and suffering from injuries and Kelly was out injured Wisdom has stood in and in most games done well. However with both Johnson and Enrique back, they'll take their positions.
