YES - YES - YES well done Evans

For once the Tour De France has been won by somebody other then a drug cheating Spaniard......

Ditto, well done mate! About time it was won by a real cyclist without chemical assistance.

Credit to Evans indeed but take your blinkers off guys. The amount that was found couldn't possibly be performance enhancing and lets be honest it hardly worked if that was the intention last year. As a Sport Scientist I have looked into the drug and it doesn't really serve any purpose to use unless you are asthmatic, which Contador isn't.

Red, it would take 20 years without anybody being caught with any substance in their system to turn around the ruined reputation that cycling as a sport has generated over the last 10 years.
I feel sorry for those that bust there gut and get beat by some grub using drugs in order to get on the podium.
What about the poor bludger that runs 2nd or 3rd and then 3 months later it is discovered the winner was all juiced up........these poor blokes don't get there moment of glory up on the podium with a good sort on either side getting all the applause and due accolades.

I am not concerned whether it was performance enhancing or not. That is not the only point. It is the damage that his actions did to the sport. Evans has taken a small step in restoring the reputation of an entire sport.

Evans won the TDF riding fantastically, and that's all that should matter, but to assume that an athlete is guilty or innocent on the basis of nationality is ludicrous.

Did Carlos Sastre test positive when he beat Evans in '08 or at any other point during his career - or is he not Spanish?

Also, Bjarne Riis, Jan Ullrich or Marco Pantani were all confirmed users and suspicions have been around regarding Lance Armstrong for years. Are they all honorary Spaniards?

If Sastre's suspect on the basis of nationality, why shouldn't Evans be for having ridden on a Telekom team where doping was rife?

Or on the basis of his having come through the ranks in the days it is commonly accepted that virtually everyone was on the juice?

Or on the fact that he's been finishing ahead of a multitude of doped riders in countless professional events for years?

Ah, because he's Australian. Incredible logic.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

At least 30 actually. Eddy Merckx tested positive 3 times in his career. Zoetemelk, Fignon and Thevenet tested positive. Roche and Delgado have been linked to doping, as has virtually every TDF winner since the late 1960s bar perhaps Hinault and Van Impe.

Doping's been around in sport - and not only cycling - for over a century. The only thing that's changed in the past decade is the authorities' and the general public's attitude towards it.

For as long as I can remember, doping strategies have evolved to stay one step ahead of the rules and will continue to do so.
